Home remedies for colds

Yeah, I've seen drivers come out of a stall, bypass sinks, open the door, and head straight to buffet. Gross. Even after I've washed my hands good, when I get to the truck, I still lay the hand sanitizer on my hands.

It's sad that people are so content to be disgusting slobs,....Not just truckers, but just about anywhere you go these days, people are filthy animals.
Some truckers are by far the worst offenders though.

I have a theory... methinks some people put the paper towel down on the terlet seat when they take a crap, when the business doesn't provide the wax paper ***-gaskets. Maybe they think it's better than lining the seat with terlet paper because it's thicker. :dunno:
haha, just look at the girl's bathroom seats. It's worse than the men's bathroom.....

Lord have mercy..... is everyone potty trained by a pack of wild dogs these days????
Actually wild dogs are better behaved.

This one's been hanging out here for the past few days. It acts like it owns the place. But it's a nice dog so the other night when it was unexpectedly cold, I let it sleep in the half-heated garage. In the morning when I put it back outside, it hadn't pooped or peed anywhere in the garage, meaning that even a stray dog is more civilized than some people.

Looks like Duck might have another dog.

As for handwashing, yes, I do wash my hands, but no more during cold/flu season than any other time. I do not have or use hand sanitizer.

There are healthy bacteria on the skin that protects from bad bacteria. Overuse of cleaning agents and sanitizers kills the good bacteria and leaves a person open to infection. Also, elimination of all germs weakens the immune system by not allowing it to "learn" pathogens.

I had a mild cold last year that lasted for three days or so. I hadn't been sick for four years previous to that.

What's your pleasure??

And sweat. Sweat it out. Pee it out. all the way out.

Back in the day,
when tongues were clucking over the children,
my wife's grandmother (where part of our kids Cherokee stems from, BTW) used to say,

Dirt will kill them...

but it will take tons...

and it has to fall on them.
:D

And when somebody asked her,
WOW!! YOU HAD NINE KIDS!!??
She would deadpan...
Well,
we didn't want a big family...
but we didn't have a television.
:rolllaugh2:

We REALLY need a boot-in-the-ass smilie here. ;)

Good Greif pal sounds like your CURE is MUCH WORSE than the cold itself was

I was always under the impression hand sanitizers do nothing about viruses; that they only kill bacteria. Since colds and flus are caused by viruses, then hand sanitizers are worthless against them.

I have seen a lot (too many) of people bypass the restroom sink in favor of sanitizers. Bad idea. Wash your stinking hands, as BW9 says, with soap and hot water and scrubbing. That is what gets viruses off you.

And there are some obvious things as well, such as eating nutritious foods and getting enough sleep each night. A bit of exercise is beneficial right at the start of a cold, at least for me. If I get a bit sniffly, I go jogging. Clears it right up usually. If it doesn't, chow down on some habeneros.

Great question. Alcohol can deactivate viruses and I heard even "kill" them, so they do work. But I agree with you that we shouldn't squirt sanitizer in lieu of hand washing. :)
I have also heard ( iam not doctor big surprise) I have heard that after multiple application of sanitizer will built up a film on the hands and trap germs. Wash your hands people!

Hand sanitizer dries out your skin & causes cracks, ... leaving places for germs to get trapped.
True!! And as Rig Jockey pointed out, washing gets rid of film. But I still use sanitizer after washing my hands religiously in the office because its a habit now.
