WASHINGTON – Federal Health authorities on Saturday urged consumers to avoid eating cookies, cakes, ice cream and other foods that contain peanut butter until authorities can learn more about a deadly outbreak of salmonella contamination.
Most peanut butter sold in jars at supermarkets appears to be safe, said Stephen Sundlof, head of the Food and Drug Administration's food safety center.
"As of now, there is no indication that the major national name-brand jars of peanut butter sold in retails stores are linked to the recall," Sundlof told reporters in a conference call.
Officials are focusing on peanut paste, as well as peanut butter, produced at a Blakely, Ga., facility owned by Peanut Corp. of America. Its peanut butter is not sold directly to consumers but distributed to institutions and food companies. But the peanut paste, made from roasted peanuts, is an ingredient in cookies, cakes and other products that people buy in the supermarket.

Eat peanuts not processed into goo.

The chances of getting sick from tainted P. B. are about as large as any other screwup of food has been. Some locations are bad where other locations are safe. Same thing with truck slop food as well as all kinds of restaurants and fast food joints.
Just stay away from the Peanut Butter snack crackers. Other peanut butter items aren't tainted.
I'll continue to eat P. B. as well as other supposedly harmful foods.

THE BEST terrorist action to harm ANY society is still with Water Systems/Supplies. Poisoning Water Supplies does MORE DAMAGE than anything else because WE need Water, WE do not however need Peanut Butter or Mad Cow Diseased Steaks.
Polluted Water used when growing Crops certainly affects output as well as consumption.

What gets my attention is what foods gain the top headlines on food poisoning..

According to the CDC
Disease Listing, Foodborne Illness, General Information | CDC Bacterial, Mycotic Diseases

What are the most common foodborne diseases?
The most commonly recognized foodborne infections are those caused by the bacteria Campylobacter, Salmonella, and E. coli O157:H7, and by a group of viruses called calicivirus, also known as the Norwalk and Norwalk-like viruses.

Campylobacter

...
These bacteria live in the intestines of healthy birds, and most raw poultry meat has Campylobacter on it. Eating undercooked chicken, or other food that has been contaminated with juices dripping from raw chicken is the most frequent source of this infection.

Salmonella

is also a bacterium that is widespread in the intestines of birds, reptiles and mammals. It can spread to humans via a variety of different foods of animal origin.

...

E. coli O157:H7

is a bacterial pathogen that has a reservoir in cattle and other similar animals. Human illness typically follows consumption of food or water that has been contaminated with microscopic amounts of cow feces.

...

Calicivirus, or Norwalk-like virus

...

Unlike many foodborne pathogens that have animal reservoirs, it is believed that Norwalk-like viruses spread primarily from one infected person to another. Infected kitchen workers can contaminate a salad or sandwich as they prepare it, if they have the virus on their hands. Infected fishermen have contaminated oysters as they harvested them.

So if those are the sources of the majority of food poisoning, why do the cute little peanuts get the repeated breaking-report news coverage? :tiphat:
