Driving With The Flu

I got a dose of the swine flu when it was going around. I stayed in an Alabama truck stop near Muscle Shoals for two days. It was all I could do to get the dog out three times a day and go inside for more water and juice. I was very weak from a 102° fever and the malaise that accompanies the flu. Once I was over the worst, I got back to work. I was weak and slightly feverish for almost five days after that.

A cold usually starts with a sore throat or a watery runny nose that leaks when you bend over. The flu almost always starts with a sudden, intense need to just go to bed from extreme fatigue and fever. Pneumonia, while almost always a secondary infection, starts with a cough and progresses to a low-grade fever and painful, wracking cough with constant shortness of breath..

Yeh, it was my business to know this. I taught it as part of being an EMT. Infectious diseases was my teaching topic. And, I've had all three numerous times.

you hit it on the head. The flu comes on out of nowhere and knocks the crap out of you. Colds, from the rhinovirus family, is less severe and works up gradually.

I feel your pain I have come down with some stomach flu or virus on Friday night and it still looks like I will miss work on Monday cause I can't stay off my throne. It's some bad stuff going around and very contagious

Last time I had the stomach flu I was in bed for two days, whining like a little baby. The good thing is I was so sick, I threw up from having a cigarette. I quit smoking that day

I was just looking at Google Maps trying to figure some **** out cuz I have 3 drops to make in Kansas City on Monday, but no directions for any of them.

Right now I'm probably 1 mile away from the "Diamond Shamrock" truck stop next to a Waffle House on I-635 exit 3 (Kansas Ave) that I spent 3 days at a few years ago when I got the flu.

There's some big-ass grocery warehouse just west of it, it's name won't show up on Google maps, but that's where I was headed. The last 200 miles of that trip were terrible, ... I forced myself to continue & deliver, but called them & had them come out to the truck cuz I didn't want to bring the virus into a grocery place (and I didn't want to get out of the truck). They were like "no no no, .. that's ok, we'll send the lumpers out to the truck, back into door 5 million & 6". I got empty & went next door to that truck stop & sat there for 3 days.

I vowed never to return, but I guess it's either that or hang out in the ghetto all day & night.

****ing Waffle House will be my breakfast, lunch & dinner today, ...

I am currently in houston not sure were I am going next. Does anyone know someplace in houston were I can get to a doctor with a big truck. I have had what I thought was the flue for 2 weeks but not so sure know. My soar throat has gotten unbearable and my uvula the flap in the middle of your mouth is swollen in is covered in a whitish brown coating and hurts like hell to swallow. Every time I call someplace they say they have no room for a truck or bobtail.

Last 2 days I have been going through asprin like crazy just to keep the headache under control. If any one know a place were I can get my truck into to see a doctor would be great. Even if it is out side of Houston or tx. Thanks.

of that I have no doubt. Doing a rest just slept for 13 hours. That is why I need to find someplace I can get too.

You need penicillin. Maybe Dr. Darla can fix you up. I'm thinking 500mg for 10 days 4 times a day.

that is why I am trying to find a doctor with parking. I have called 10 doctors none could get me in because I am not a current patient 3 urgent cares close can't bring the truck in. Maybe it will pass in a couple more weeks

I'd leave the truck at a truck stop & call a cab, or un-hook & bobtail.

One thing they will do is take a throat culture and send it off. They will give you the penicillin right away though. You may be able to tell them to forget analyzing the culture to save you money. The penicillin will work within hours and make your throat fell better but you MUST take the whole bottle over the suggested time period.

Some Walmarts have a walk-in clinic in them. The one closest to my house does. I won't even waste my time with regular doctors' offices that require appointments. Eventually they might figure out their appointment-only system sucks and change the way they accept patients. When I'm sick I don't want to make an appointment, I want to go in NOW, not a week from Tuesday.

wish you were in Vegas, our lot is big enough for a rig.

Many urgent cares are in a shopping center near a grocery store so that could be an option if you can't make an appointment.
