Driver's Retirement Thread

Due to medical / logistical reasons, I pretty much left trucking in July 2024. MVA wrecked my truck and my body and I opted to just get off the road.

Work wise, I went back to my degree and back into construction. Working more towards actually retiring and being able to live off my guard pension and 401K. 2027, I should be able to quit full time work and go to half time
Welcome back. I was wondering where you went. I wrecked my truck in July 2025.

Just turned 66 and was hoping to truck till I am 70. But I have a hip going bad and my wife's health is getting worse so I may pull the pin earlier.
I went at 66. My wife pushed for it and I’m glad now I did she was tired of being home by herself after all these years. We have spent the last two winters in Florida in a RV. And there is no shortage of local part time driving jobs and grass to mow when e get back home here in Pennsylvania. Just made it home yesterday.

Sorry to hear that. I have a couple decades to go. I'm racking my brain to think of something I can do that doesn't use my body. I don't honestly see myself driving a truck for 30 more years. When I started 10 years ago it wasn't nearly as stressful and I was running into NJ as a newbie.

Just today I almost got ran off the road by another truck that came into my lane.

I hear ya! That's why I got off the road a few years back. The road has become dangerous. Most drivers are very unprofessional these days and also lack the basic skills required for the job.
Probably like 15 years ago they were calling it the race to the bottom. Hiring anyone that could fog a mirror just to keeps the pay and rates down. Are we at the bottom yet?

Hey all. I'm still alive and kicking. How, I don't know, I seem to be falling apart little by little, but I'm not giving up yet.

I hear from my replacement how really bad it is getting out there and not really being a religious person, I thank the Lord every day that I don't have to get into a truck again. It broke my neck, my back, my right shoulder and my knees. If not for my side hustle, I probably would have to find something to subsidize my love of food. I don't think that will ever end.

I'll check in now and then, I'm just trying to stay away from sitting on my ass in front of a screen. I've been doing tons of at home projects while I still can. Who knows, in a year, I may not be able to, but I'll keep up the fight.

I'm wondering and hoping the non-sitting activities will help you start to feel better.
