Driver's Retirement Thread

I always got it and always had it, but never used it. I got it in the beginning because, well, you just never know.
i got all the endorsements except for passenger all for FREE when the CDL came on line in 1992, from my previous chauffer's' license. that's was a truckers license was, back then.

yes, i pulled doubles especially working for NEMF an LTL company when i did night time line haul.

many times, it pays to have all that you can get.

I thought about getting doubles but when push comes to shove I end up just wanting to get out of the DMV ASAP.
i think it is still just a "written test", nowadays, done on the 'puter........

my day, it was a written test, where you just colored in the circle for the correct answer.

the computer shuts off the test, when you get the correct number of answers, so it goes by pretty quick.

Now that you mention it I can remember going with a friend of mine back in 92 to take the tests.

Looking at a map right now, they are listed as lakes. There are tons of them in that area.
@389 Hood
@389 Hood We made it into the RV park last Thursday. The sites are good size and the water we are backed up to is nicer than I thought it would be. Don’t know whether to call it a lake or a pond here in Florida.
@389 Hood We made it down to a RV park in Wabasso On Nov 1st. We are here till April.IMG_1997.webp

Oh, no, Florida has gone sideways. :D
Florida is like California ya hadda get there decades ago before the Housing and Real Estate prices really got way outta hand.

Even that said ya originally bought a house back then for 90/100 some grand today that "Same House" valued "Half a MILLION" todays prices and ya "Property Taxes" gonna be atleast 10 Grand.

I bought my first house for $50k and put another 20k into it to make it the way I wanted it. That was 1988. Buy the fixer-upper in the higher dollar neighborhood. Sold that house in 2016 for $259k. Moved up here and bought for $190k, double the size and lot size. Now the market on this house is touching $500k.

Property taxes up here are about half of what they were in Ft. Lauderdale. Just paid this year at $1480. If I had bought this house moving here from out of state, the property taxes would be about $12k. Florida allows portability from your previously Homesteaded property and by law, the state/county can not increase your real estate taxes by more than 3%. It also can't be lowered by more than 3%.

One bedroom apartments in a decent area here are at close to $2000/mo. Yet you can rent a house for about $500 more.

I dont live in Florida ya 1500 miles halfway across the country from my house.

Do see on the News Florida constantly in Real Estate Bubbles and Crashes some places down in Florida dropped 15/20 percent some areas a Rough Market because prices went thru the "Stratosphere" down that way

I used think I could retire whenever I want even had nearly 100 grand saved up in bank even posted afew pic here my Credit Union "Statement".

The last 5 /6 years INFLATION got 4 Real

Working still cash coming thru the front door every week my "Nest Egg" has dwindled 70/75k.

I may have 2 consider "Trucking" again 4 afew years where ya make the kinda $$$ ya can let half the paycheck stack in the bank account live off other half cover my expenses the "Co$t" of "Living"

Due to medical / logistical reasons, I pretty much left trucking in July 2024. MVA wrecked my truck and my body and I opted to just get off the road.

Work wise, I went back to my degree and back into construction. Working more towards actually retiring and being able to live off my guard pension and 401K. 2027, I should be able to quit full time work and go to half time
