Drivers getting lazy after getting raises

Motor carriers are seeing an unexpected trend: Drivers are working less despite getting record pay increases.

A CCJ survey conducted the first week of September found that 83% of fleets increased driver pay at least once in 2021, but 29% have seen driver availability decrease in the busy summer months.

The percentage of fleets who saw a decrease in driver availability was even higher (57%) among those who operate more than 500 trucks. Only 14% saw an increase in driver availability.

I'm home every week and make more than I ever have. Not one of the jobs back home pay what this one does.

It's worth keeping your nose clean and applying yourself out here. If you're on the road and making the same as you would a temp job sorting garbage you're screwing up.

Most places starting at 45/50 Cents per mile nowadays.

Even seen afew offering 55cpm now.

Benefits are still crappy and not much change as far as working conditions.

I think they gonna have to do alot better..

I work less as an owner than I did as a company driver.

We signed a new contract with jokingly higher rates (literally pennies more on 140 mile runs). Even if it was $20 more or $100 more for the same run I wouldn't work harder.

It's not worth giving your all to a corporation. BTDT.

I'd probably run my ass off for a little while with full authority just to get a boost. But then chill out.

We in the LTL biz on the other hand pay top dollar and deserve better than the shit we been gettin lately. But then again you need a TM with the gonads to put business before politics

How much is "top dollar?" I remember ABF bragging about their pay when I first started and I ended up making the same at US Xpress and more at Schneider.

Well, the top rates for peddle guys seems to run between $32-34 an hour. Linehaul tho is another story. Companies run the gamut on that one

At what point do you get too old to keep job hopping and just continue to ride out all the various executives coming and going until retirement?

I guess to my mind it depends how deeply affected your contentment is. Or whether you're the type to ever be content.
