I think many have went this route in recent years, as people began to realize that it wasn't illegal. I also think that is why you see more steer tires blown now as trucks sit on the shoulder of the interstate with their trucks destroyed.

To be fair, trucks that hit a company terminal every day are going to be vastly different than trucks that sit in Phoenix waiting for rain...
 
The majority of the blowouts I've had were recaps. Not all, but most. Nothing but virgin rubber on my truck now, and I haven't had a problem since I started doing that.
 
all Veriha trailers have working inflation systems. there is a mix of tires anything from used steers recaps etc. To me number one killer of tires is pressure. Blown one tire in 4 years here
You're exactly right. Tires do not just blow like some think. Its caused by low pressure or an injury to the tire.
