Do You Like The New 34 Hour Restart Rule?

Yeah. I know. You were the one successful CR England O/O, you've reminded me a couple times. Do successful business operators retire after a year?

Ok ... so I load out on Sunday morning with clean clocks, do 500 miles a day and pull into my driveway Friday morning with a load that delivers on Monday 275 miles away at 0600.

The new 34 hour rule prevents me from making that delivery on time. Why?

Use your own words below to figure it out and then tell me how late I'll be.

Now explain to me why the rule won't affect me and just what is/are "solar hours"? I've never heard or seen this phrase used in regard to HOS.
I never heard of a successful England O/O most of the ones I talked to there settlements were in the holeo_O

Its no different now than when they changed the first time...You just adapt to the new stupid a** rules that some fool in Washington thought up while driving to his desk job in his Honda Prius!! Can you say "loose-leaf"?

Prius is made by Toyota, not Honda.

Also, loose-leaf cheater books aren't available to everybody.

It seems that the logic of the 34-hour rule should be extended. The implicit assumption of those who would do truckers "good" via the 34-hour restart rule is that we're all the same at least in terms of our activity levels and need for rest. Yet we're individually responsible for our medical condition. And you can bet that we are individually responsible for screw ups. Consistency isn't the hallmark of government -- screwing with people is.

I love this man, I wish he were my Grandpa.

And I wish he'd write articles for the site. And post them.

They gotta be better than mine...

No. It makes me some weeks not have a restart and run off of recap, limiting my hours. I am a regional driver, home weekly. Some weeks I work 6 days, some 4 days. It depends where I run. Not dedicated

What I do not understand is,what does it matter how many restarts we have in a week,or what time of the day it starts and ends.I am sure they had a reason, but I would really appreciate someone explaining to me.

Nope I don't like it usually start my day at 04:00 but i usually run on my recover hours. Have run as many as 45 days with out a restart.

Well PATT went to the FMCSA and showed them how with a 34 hour restart we could actually work 84 hours in 7 days negating the 60/70-7/8 day rule. So we get the one reset every 168 hours(7 days) The Teamsters backed them to get their member workweek down to 5 days when their negotiations failed to.

Someone brought out the stat of rollovers being more prevelant in the hours between 12 midnight and 6 am. They figured we needed to sleep during those hours at least twice a week. Regardless. Of drivers who work night shift

The re-set is a joke! before the new rules it was handy. the new rules have not handicapped me. I have three months worth of logs where I have not declared a reset. Why? because! I have roll over hours and I need not show a re-cap to prove it. So You do the math DOT. as hard as FMCSA is trying to make it on us, They are making it harder on the DOT.

i can't stand the government period it's just one liar competing against another liar!! there's now why can't they have someone in the house that has been in a truck and that ( knows ) what trucking is like:confused-96: let guess that's to much common sense.

Yeah,
we lost a great common sense advocate when Ben Nighthorse Campbell left the senate.

I would prefer they just revert back to split sleeper provision, no 34 reset, no 30 min break, no 14, no 11. Just dial back to 1999 and leave things alone. It worked just fine for almost 70 years doing it that way and everything got done. Once things get more complicated, the easier to mess things up for everyone. Just like if one complicates the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain.
