Do You Like The New 34 Hour Restart Rule?

I am just saying that waiting in a truck stop for a 34 hour reset is more stressful and tiring than driving. Nothing is gained by it for anybody.
Well there is something to be gained. Dispatch has you in an area where they are watching a load board. Waiting for the the rate to go up before they bid on that load.
The longer it sits on the board, The better the rate for the company. You will not see dollar one of that money. You get your CPM.

Don't believe me. Look at reasonable freight areas and how many CRST trucks are parked there.

You ain't lying pal....

I hate when ya been sitting ALL-DAY and about 2 hours after climbing in the sleeper and got a much needed snooze on and an awesome dream they call ya at midnight with a HOT LOAD and ya ain't got good rest yet ya chug some coffee fuel up and find yourself on an ALL-NIGHTER that after the waiting time lasts about 24 hours....

With all the actual changes in language of the changes to the rule. You had better be sharp on your books. The problem we have with it is loading and unloading times that are no longer able to be logged off duty. On the other hand we are going to implement a new criteria in our contracts also. Since most of our work is transporting heavy or oversize. Nothing worse than sitting hours waiting for a crane to show up to load or unload. I have waited 8 hours at times and still have a deadline to transport. With the new rules we no longer have that option. The new rule of waiting in readiness will get you an out of service.

With the new rule we must hold to a two hour window, and if the crane is not ready, we have to get a revised contract to include detention and a new permit and arrival time or leave the job. This is going to be a make or break deal for many. This new HOS will also affect permits and we are not going to absorb the losses by walking off the job. General trucking will do OK with team drivers, but individuals will be harmed on the total profit end with less work aloud.

We on the other hand will have to either cover additional costs due to delays and time sensitive loads with rigging companies that are slow or late, or best to walk away and let the morons figure out what they have to do to fix the problems they created. The new rule will allow us to walk away from any load that cannot be conducted as contracted. But that doesn't look good also.

One advantage we have is we can rig, but the problem has been getting worse on what the customer will pay for a precision move.

You can "cool" that hot load by not answering your phone and returning there call 3 or 4 hours later.

No point in getting all fired up about hot loads. You bust your ass to get it there and the guys on the dock usually have to let it sit and cool down before they will unload it.

Don't let some of us deter your obvious passion for your rights. We are all concerned about the newest rules, how we will be affected by them and I'm glad your posting these! Please carry on and remember we are all in this together, we're just affected differently.

(Nobody better comment on this cuz I am in NO fuggin mood to deal with jackwads today being as how DISPATCH PUT ME ON A LOAD THAT ALLOWED ME TO DRIVE A WHOLE 1:55 MINUTES TODAY and gotta make my next move at 01:30.)

What happens if we comment anyway? :stirpot2:

@Flatbedpete . @DubbleD has a good point. This is a discussion and any discussion worth discussing can get heated and has very different opinions on either side.

I am not against your views . I want to see more of your thoughts on this.

Nice quote in there by Spoon " thinks the government has created a solution looking for a problem"
That's the real issue, they have not stopped in the name of safety since before the FMCSA, back when they were the FHA pre 2000, it's just that ever since 2000 they have really gone nuts with creating laws to create safe trucks & drivers. Have they, have the trucks and drivers become safer? I see and feel nothing but constant harassment. A constant hostile work environment. You can't fix what ain't broken only wreck it and cause organized chaos, which is what they have accomplished.

Maybe the FMCSA will go the way of the ICC and we can get a whole new band of lunatics.

Thus far, The new rules have had zero impact on me! I got my break in before driving 8 so far. I have put in and extra half hour break or more due to the day to day operations of a trucker dealing with shippers, ANNE. I have qualified for a reset this weekend, ANNE. No problem!

Thus far I have not had to sit someplace waiting on 30 minutes to pass. It still does not help me with the race against the fourteen,RAY.

I can still run out my 11 in 12 or 13 hours, ANNE, RAY, FMCSA. Too bad mandating shippers is out of your scope of authority. I will be just fine, Thank You, Anne and Ray, YOU, May want to look for a new job. Mothers against truckers have a heavy hand.
