Cutting the cord

I think I'm finally going to turn my cable box in real soon. I was supposed to do it after Christmas last year but I've been hesitating. I have Netflix and Amazon. I might pick up Hulu but I can't find a list of the shows they carry.

And I'll just put an antennae on all the tvs for local stuff.

I'll lose Oriole games and some national news stuff but the price of cable is just bugging me. They raised me thirty bucks at the beginning of the year and I have the cheapest package. Screw them.
 I still have my cable:mad:. I can't really beat the price because my internet is tied in with my cable. MLB subscription via the net seems kinda pricy to me.
I want to quit the cable but we have the CRTC that is supposed to work for the people against these cable companies to keep them competitive, But they fuck up everything that they touch!

haha i cut the cable a while back just because of there third world support as well as it's slow @ 300 megs max. theres others out here that provide gigabit speeds for comparable costs with merican support

Different wax balls up here. The cable/ Interebs providers IMO are in collusion.

yea i know!!! you guys get screwed on everything up there:mad:!!! i can't belive you guys have to pay to unlock your phones up there:mad:
Only if you buy a locked phone. I got screwed that way on my Blackberry. I paid for the phone out right and they sold me a locked phone.
Being as I am a fucking genius, I figured I could unlock it and I bricked it.
I think they changed the law since then and they can't lock your phone. But yeah point taken. We get screwed by these cartels:thumbsup:

I had wireless streaming tv service when I was a kid more than 50 years ago. I think they usually call it OTA these days.:D

Got rid of cable and got a network airwave antenna ...or whatever it's called. The basic cable package was $40/mo. The antenna was $80 and that was it. I actually get more channels now than I did with basic cable. I don't miss the one "premium" channel, Discovery, because I don't care what those inbreds in Alaska do with their sisters.

What is old is new again. People going back to antenna.
My family out in the country have those antennas that rotate. They have a box in the house that controls it.

Of course as a city kid I thought it was pretty lame, but I would not mind having one now.

as long as one has a tv with the decoder built in to accept the scrambled signals.

i only this past spring, threw away a 27 inch Hitachi tv that was only about 30 years old, cuz i had bought a new one and the old one was way too big for the kitchen, BUT, while i had it, i had to have a decoder box, that was actually free from our guberment......

I used to get a lot of channels if I was near a major city. I like that they have that channel that airs all the old shows like three's company and others. You can pick up that channel in every city in the U.S.

Of course every time I was stuck somewhere for a long time,.....Zero channels!

We are cutting off Direct TV today, just picked up a clearTV antenna from Walmart. Going forward it will be local channels, Netflix, and Amazon Prime only.
Also many stations are now offering on-line APPS for free. They are limited but, you can still catch your favourite shows from the big networks.
Like The Big Bang theory for example.

Good thing there's Kindle e-reader!

An' prono audio books!

:biggrin-2:
My mom used to listen to romance novels on audio books after her sight got poor.
And she had it really loud after her hearing started to get bad.

My brother tells about one day when somebody from the county commissioners office came by to talk about something...
with a pretty sordid scene blasting from mom's boombox.

Don had to ask...
MOM! WOULD YOU MIND TURNING THE DAMN PRON OFF FOR COMPANY!??
