Comcheck question

** Commie Express **
I'm enrolled in Landstar's savings plus whatever it's called. When I haul a load my payment is loaded onto my card. I can also get a blank Comcheck and transfer money onto that.

My question is this. Can I put anyone's name on the Comcheck or does it have to be me?

The best I remember about Comcheck is as long as the code number is right it dont matter who has the check.

Ok, thanks. Sometimes I would like to send a check home to get it deposited into my checking account but whatever name is on the check must be standing there to deposit it. So, I want to make it out to a friend so she can cash it then deposit the money into my account.

I just gave my wife a book of comchecks she would give me the check number and I would authorize whatever money I wanted to give her she would make out the check take it to the bank and deposit it.
that way there was no chance of it getting lost in the mail sending an authorized comcheck is pretty much the same as sending cash it would be real easy for a thief to cash it

Why would a bank care if your name is on the check and some chic was depositing it into your account? Unless its over $10K I've never had to show ID for a deposit.
It not as if there trying to withdraw money.

Depends on where you are cashing it. If you deposit it in your bank they are gonna want your name on it or it becomes a two person check. Truck stops just ask for an ID number as far as I know.

I'll give you an example. When I pay my mortgage I have to answer two security questions. Yeah like someone out there is just dying to make my payment, and I would not want them to:rolleyes:

Say what now?????? You a lot more "trusting" than I ever was.

Suggest you look into some form of Direct Deposit to your checking account and then use a debit card. Much safer and easier to keep track of; plus gives you a shorter "paper trail" when doing taxes, etc. Doesn't put you in the position of finding out your "friend" is not quite the "friend" you thought they was either.

You cant be for real!
Really?

Yep. I asked them why and the lady with a flat tone said "Well we want to make sure it is you making this payment"o_O

I asked "Can I set up an authorization for anyone else that would care to?"

"No Sir. They would have to give the payment to you, and then you could make it"

If thats the case, I'd change banks. LOL
Hell my little home town bank dont care who puts money into my account nor makes a payment as long as they have the payment coupon, even with the coupon it could be anyones check even from another bank.

Have you called your bank? I would do that first, I think.

I might be wrong, but I would think that you would be able to make it out to yourself, and mail (or fedex) the check with a deposit slip to your bank.

Might be a good idea to endorse it using the words "For Deposit Only" with your signature below that.

Maybe a wire transfer to your own account?

A Comcheck has a space for type of ID and number like a drivers license. Whoever the check is made out to must be there in person with that ID. My original question was, are those Comchecks tied to the persons name on the account. That question was answered.

I normally have only used the card to buy fuel but my balance is getting up there and want to clean it out. Landstar doesn't do direct deposit if you have this card. It's either one of the other and not both.

Off topic but related. Does LS charge you for the card? I mean a fee per transaction?
Curiosity.

I think it's like a $1.00 to load the money on the card. Landstar also has a program you install on your laptop if you have a printer/scanner. You use the program to scan in your signed BOL, invoice and rate agreement then it sends it in. Two days later your paid. I've been doing a bunch of loads lately for them taking pipe to the Navy yard. They've been paying me twice what I would normally get. They don't have anyone that can go on base. It's right next to the nuclear subs. Pretty cool being there!!!!

Yes that is correct.

@Injun gave me fuel money via Comchek when I was driving her deceased friend's truck back to his house. She sent me the authorization code in a text message & I got a blank Comchek from the fuel desk at the Flying J.

And a lot of drivers leave the name part blank on a Comchek when they're paying for a lumper because they don't know what to put on there. Sometimes it's the name of the receiver, & sometimes the lumper service is a 3rd party.

Ok, gotcha. I unnerstand now.

You can have any name in the "Pay To" section. Whoever it's paid to has to provide ID.

The only parts that are set in stone are the card number/express code and the name of the company upon which the check is drawn.

The ComCheck I issued to Duck had an express code issued by ComData and Swift as the named company. He wrote the check to himself, with the amount that was authorized for him.
