Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculator

We will see how it goes. not sure where on the BMI things will be set.

I can say, that Prime has this in place on their own, and they have a waiting list for training.

Personally, I think the compliance side of CSA2010 will be what challenges the industry the most. not sure how hard they are going to grade drivers yet, but I bet there are plenty of the out there that will not qualify to drive.

I wonder exactly how much they have considered what the outcome of this could be.

After all, this has been discussed since 2004 and put into the plan a couple years ago.

I'm surprised they didn't make asthma a disqualification. Let me shut up I better not give them any ideas or I'm screwed myself.

Under the medical side of things that is trying to be pushed, Asthma could likely effect you in regards to a physical. This has nothing to do with BMI, but proposals are currently being studied that will limit your ability to drive for many health concerns. Not sure how far this will make it though.

See with my asthma I haven't had an attack in 6-7 years and I'm not on any medicine, well I was but since medical card won't cover me no more I said screw it I'm not paying $270 for some damn medicine. To be honest with ya I don't need it, I know how to control my asthma and I think it's going away, it sure feels like it anyway. Driving a truck hasn't affect my asthma not one bit, Now pulling chemical tankers I'm sure that will cause harm to me no doubt about it. Flatbed won't bother me, hard work doesn't bother my asthma I just have to pace myself. But I do think overall my asthma is going away!

not sure, this is our Government we are talking about here, LOL.

I do know, that while you can't throw fairly throw everyone under an umbrella like this, there are legitimate reasons to start taking these actions, for multiple reasons. Just speaking on the weight issue though, there are drivers out there who do not need to legally be behind the wheel of a truck.

That said, a "real" DOT physical would likely take quite a few of these people off the road already. I can only remember a couple complete physicals in all of the physicals I have taken. 99% of the time, it is little more than a half ass eye exam, a joke regarding hearing, hit your knees with a hammer, check your blood pressure, and sign your card.

Sinister,
It is not being paranoid.

I think the way it has been going the last 10 years leaves no doubt there is going to be two classses of people left.

Those that have, and those that do not.

This, combined with CSA2010, is going to take many drivers off of the road. It will also wake many drivers up. It has already woke me up a little. Not sure where the health issue will ultimately tie into phyisical qualifications, but I know it will be close enough that I now know better than to place an order for a Baconator at the "Wendy's" inside of the Pilot, like I love to do. I pay more attention to the fact they sell things like chicken, and that stuff called "salads".

You are already letting the government tell you what to eat.

My questions for you are:

1- did you actually need this pointer? or was it something you knew already, but failed to act on?

2- are you comfortable with this level of govenment, because it wont stop here.

3- what is your plan B if you are disqualified, you big fatty? Because fat people, if nothing else, should at least be allowed to drive trucks.

Asthma is something that often does go way over time. I think I had it growing up, but never got treated for it. never had any bad attacks though. Much of my family had it.

Again, 1984.

The Party, and the Proles (short for Proletariat). Rich and poor. I guess there are more paranolid conspiracy crazies other than myself!

Actually, my wife is the one that has woke me up in regards to what I eat. This BMI thing just made me think about it even more. That said, I am not overweight to the point wouldn't qualify anyway. If I am, then we are truly in trouble because I consider myself thin compared to many out there.

Am I comfortable with this level of government? Hell no. But, I am in an industry where people as a whole do little more than bitch about things.

If I was disqualified tomorrow, I would clean off my toolbox and start turning wrenches again at a Ford Dealership, write service at a dealer, or find a job doing one of many other things I can do...... Or, I could live the wonderful life of going out for that government check for the rest of my life, LOL

I was 1 lbs when I was born and for the first 13 years of my life I had 1-2 asthma attacks a year and very bad ones too along with pneumonia and the flu! Of course I been around a refinery for the past 6 years so I guess that is helping my immune system and asthma. Like I said I know my limitations and no longer worry about my asthma because I know how to control. The only thing I had in the past 6 years was a upper respiratory infection and that was a year ago. Other than never had an asthma related problem!

The crazy thing about that BMI is i.5 lbs. can mean the difference between normal and overweight. I've been growing a little gut, lately, but if I lost about 7 lbs. I'd go from overweight to normal. That's only a couple of cheeseburgers! lol.

This is simply yet another case of drivers needing to start paying attention to the direction their industry is heading, and staying on top of issues like this as they develop.

We are talking about this now because of a link that Flatbroke posted from Prime's website.

Now, we don't know where the government is going with this, but Prime's qualification is a BMI of less than 39. not sure about everyone else, but at my current weight, which I am not proud of, I could gain another 50 pounds and still drive a truck. I don't know that I could live at that weight, but I know there are people out there who do.

Anyhow, I got sidetracked looking at that info. What I was getting at is that truck drivers need to get more involved in these issues. here on this site, the health issues were brought up, including BMI, back in the beginning of 2008. it was a dead issue until a new story came out, which got merged with that old thread. Even then, it quickly died away.

You know when this will become a major issue out on the CB? When it is officially passed. That is the saddest part of all of this.

True, but we aren't talking about at tipping point to "overweight". It is the point of "obese" where it becomes an issue.
