TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A semi fire near Lafayette has halted traffic on I-65 Saturday, according to WANE's sister station, WLFI.

Both northbound and southbound lanes of I-65 between the 175 exit and the 172 exit are closed. Indiana State Police said the crash, which involved two semis, happened around three miles north of the State Road 26.

The crash occurred in the northbound lanes, but crews were fighting the fire from the southbound lanes, according to police. Officials said once the emergency crews are finished, the southbound lanes will be reopened.

A detour has been set up, and police are asking drivers to avoid the area.

Indiana State Police said officers have responded to around 30 to 40 crashes on I-65 near Lafayette on Saturday

Ya'll be careful out there.

I 65 is pretty crazy most times. Lots of truck traffic and private vehicle traffic on a mostly two lane. Most making the run from Chicago to Indianapolis.

#2 on my favorite list of things about this gig is only running Tennessee/ Kentucky and Marion Ar:D

Buddy of mine from Titan called bitching about a customer in NY that does not plow their lot:confused:

I do not miss 65 from Indy to the blow hole:cool:

The roads weren't nearly as bad as they were earlier last week. This is nothing more than a classic case of driving too damn fast for the conditions. I had no issues getting around town in a single axle daycab, and the secondary roads were much worse than the highways.

Two Swifties.

Be interesting to see a pic from the other end of the crash. Can't put four vehicles side-by-side on a two-lane in Indiana any more'n you can in Washington.

I hope there were no serious injuries.

I sort of disagree, there is very little snow on the ground, nothing to bite on and the worst condition besides ice to be on

Then slow down if you're gonna drive. It isn't rocket science. Even my employer (who has an unrealistic schedule) doesn't seem to care much if you take your time. It took me 8 hrs to drive 50 miles, and they didn't say anything to me besides "Cya tomorrow".

Couldn't drive any faster than 15 mph.

Technically I could have, but I'm not an idiot on a death wish like some CMV drivers are.
I'd have passed you going 16 mph just to mess with you, ... then speed up to the 30-35 mph everyone else was probably going.

Everyone else was going the same speed I was. I'm on secondary roads all day, every day. I rarely get on the highway anymore.

I actually deliver mail to my home branch, so I drive the same roads in my 4-wheeler as my truck.

I-65 in Indiana was closed again today. Travel "not advised" between Indy & Gary, and south of Indy it was closed from the 70-something to the 16 or something like that.

I-74 from Cincinnati to Indy was a solid sheet of ice. At the 142 yard sticker on the eastbound side, two trucks decided to park sideways with their tractors snuggled up against the sides of their trailers.
