Another big storm

“Out of route” :confused-96:

I’d last 3 days at TMC, IF I even made it through orientation
:biglaugh:
They use the movers guide or what ever. The fed says from city a to city b is 750 miles. Every mile over that starts building your percentage of out of route. They don’t tell you how to drive it you can take whatever route you want but try to keep you’re mileage down. I average about 5% out of route for a month.

Had a company driver with a four hour headstart. He went south around Lake Michigan to Iowa. I went north around the lake to Minneapolis. Boss said I added 100 miles going that way. We both left Wednesday and delivered n reloaded Friday. Both took the same routes back. I skunked him at the border Saturday by 15 minutes.

Four hour headstart, 200 extra miles and I still made the barn ahead of him

Should give me a bonus for efficiency

Yeah you could probably give me a 2 day head start. We load it like a freight train and move like turtles. TMC Turtles Moving Cargo.

I’ll let you in on a secret that’s not really that hard to figure out. I can run the UP then into Wisconsin at 55-80 mph. Unless I hit a funeral procession :cautious:

There are NO scales between Port Huron MI and Green Bay.

Or I can run Chicago at an average speed of 20 mph for three hours, plus traffic due to snow/traffic/accidents on the interstate

And there’s at least 3 if not 4 scales to get around in MI, IN, IL and WI before Menominee. Plus all the LEOs lurking about to avoid

I can make FASTER time taking the LONGER route :coocoo:

I know that’s possible. I can make better time running 40 from Cali to Des Moines than I can running 15 to 70. I slow down in them mountains it takes forever to get back up to speed.

Chicago is another I’ll run 80 to 355 and 88 into the west side or run 88 west to 39 north to get to Wisconsin. Running us 127 to GA 400 to get around Atlanta, instead of running 285.

I save my out of route for the important stuff rather than waste it on sneaking through a travel ban that the company would scold me for violating soo. I get where your coming from. I’m just saying I go 62 that’s it so every minute your above that speed your making time on me. At 80 you’re making significant time.

I look at it as an “average per hour” that I need to focus on.

Company ride governed to 65, a 19 hour day averaging 46 mph sucks donkey dangle

Didn’t take long to figure out that’s not good trucking

There's one variable you can't really account for though.....the amount of dog ****ing that one driver does vs another. Some cannot keep the door closed. It wasn't uncommon for me to bang out my 11 in 12 if I didn't have to load or unload.
Testify! That was my excuse, other driver must stop for coffee all the time or not keep the left door shut

I don’t mind the 62mph. It’s their truck I’ll drive it how they want. What kills me is waiting 4.5 hours for 3 bundles of tube. Or 6.5 hours for sheet steel...when they waste my time, it pisses me off to no end!

Reason numero uno I got off the flats and more specialized the first chance I got. Wasting SO much time at places like that and act like you're destroying their universe showing up there.

I’m better now but I don’t wait well. One place in Minneapolis I got to the point I’d drop the wagon and come back in the morning for it

I need to shower, eat, use the little boys room, whatever. Sitting in a parking lot can fuck off, I’m leaving to go be where I can do what I want. If I show back up full of fuel, fed, showered you can guess I’m in a lot better mood rather than sitting in a parking lot waiting to load.

I haven’t ever gotten the destroyed universe attitude. Most the places i have to wait at are.....you guessed it! Steel Mills! And they are all dark, everyone who works there seems pissed off or depressed and they all move like pond water. God damn lazy assed union dues payin mouth breathin getting it on with their sister life hating el Camino driving mullet having........wait I got off the road here. Anyway. Yeah so I don’t haul steel often and I’m ok with that. I couldn’t handle the sitting around waiting on daylight or the sitting around waiting on a load in specialized.

Can’t do this with my company. Unless doing a drop n hook we are not allowed to disconnect from our trailers.

Hey, speed demon. Back in the days of the double nickle, I got my first governed truck. I didn't even know they could govern a truck. I thought it was some truck driver joke.
So I call the boss up and said, I think this truck needs new fuel filters.
He says, I just got new fuel filters, so why would you say that?

Well this truck cuts out around 70 MPH, It just dies and won't go no faster.
Boss says the truck is governed at 70 MPH, The speed limit is 55 MPH, How fast do you want to go?:rolllaugh:
I was thinking more than 70.:rolllaugh:
It's a good thing this guy knew me for a while and what I was like.👍

Really?

I’ll leave it that I don’t think I’d get the call to audition in the first place

I mean, if it’s a stupid parking lot to get fuel, if I’m oversize I’m dropping my wagon to bobtail through the pumps. I ain’t even never thought to call to ask permission for that, it’s my call to protect the load

Some beaver puncher hits my load while I’m getting fuel I can’t help. Seen some heavy haul guys carry pylons to set around the load

Our specialized guys play by different rules than us line haul guys do. We rarely haul anything wider than 10’6”. Because I’m a victim of my own success and they are trying to recruit me to specialized I get to pull some of the big boy loads up to 12’. So at 10’6” I don’t worry at all. It fits thru the pumps with ease. And if they hit that 1” steel plate stack they gonna do more damage to their truck than they will that steel plate.

I’ve done a couple loads at 11’6” and 12’ wide that were shiny stainless steel tanks. Two were dairy tanks two were feed mill tanks. I dropped both to fuel.

I know most pumps are 14’ to 16’ wide. Maybe in a couple years I’ll sail through those pumps at 12’ wide

Until then I’m still building my reputation and don’t need any stupid driver awards for fucking up the load in the fuel island
