Hi all just sharing some experience from our small fleet running dump trucks on the Singapore Johor construction routes We are operating 30 ton class tipper trucks mainly hauling sand aggregates and construction waste Work is mostly short distance but with constant site cycles and waiting time
After about 2 months in operation fuel consumption seems a bit on the high side We are getting roughly 1.5 to 1.8 km per liter empty and around 0.9 to 1.2 km per liter fully loaded When there is a lot of idling at construction sites during loading and unloading queues it can drop to around 0.8 km per liter which is starting to impact operating cost more than expected
We are also seeing faster wear on tires especially the front axle noticeable uneven wear after about two months Brake pads are wearing quicker as well due to frequent braking on uneven site terrain and slopes There is also occasional minor hydraulic oil seepage after long high temperature operation but nothing critical so far
Just wanted to ask those with more experience any practical ways to reduce idle fuel consumption in this kind of operation Any recommended long life tire brands for 30 ton dump trucks in heavy site conditions Is it worth upgrading to higher temperature hydraulic oil for this workload Any proven ways to extend brake system life in stop start slope heavy site work
Margins in construction haulage seem to be getting tighter so any operational tips or real world experience would be highly appreciated
