“Nuclear verdict” kills 540 truck carrier

He reference is when I said the same thing to ganthony for telling owner / operators how insurance works. Even after he admitted he'd never bought it and never will
If you don't buy commercial truck insurance, you can't speak freely on the topic of truck insurance.

If you don't have a vagina you can't speak freely on abortion or any other "women's health" topics.

If you're not a pilot, you can't talk about airline regulations.

If you're not a cop, you're not allowed to have an opinion about who they shoot at.

If you're not a homicidal maniac, you don't get to speak freely about what homicidal maniacs should be allowed to do with their chain saws and machetes.

I am sick and tired of that irrational logic being used to try and control who can have an opinion about a topic.

Except when it's GAnthony. We should restrict his ability to speak freely and limit him to topics that involve Chef Boyardee products. 😎

to a level you are correct.

but my perspective as a motor carrier is sure as hell a lot different that the ironpony's as a leased operator.

The conversations I have had, including on this very article, with my insurance agent brings to light with me lots more of what's attacking and destroying this industry and impacting our insurance than what a lot of company drivers ever will consider or realize is important.

so much of what has been said in this thread is so wrong. But to correct it, everyone that's made a comment so far will become so butt hurt, it's easier to say, "Hillary is queen and the just president."

People come here looking for some semblance of reasonable thoughts. Most times, it's degraded itself that a truckstop counter is more informative.

Someone here, not naming names, said this is like channel 19. Really? Channel 19 isn't where I go for accurate information. And we wonder why it's dying.

sucks to be you...huh......quack..quack...

I don’t think anywhere on the Internet is a place to go for 100% accurate information. Yes you can get good advice here. Same as you CAN get good advice from an old hand on 19 or at the lunch counter. Yes there is some jack assery here same as on 19 and the truck stop lunch counter.

To try to make a social group on the Internet clinical is not good for an internet social group. Neither is to let it run rampant. I think the attitudes of certain members who have to dick slap everyone’s forehead in the name of nothing matters but what they think causes more members to leave than anything else.

Also, forums aren’t as popular these days. They were big for those of us who grew up with the start of bulletin board systems that evolved into the Internet seem to be more apt to use a forum than those who were born in Internet age. Just my opinion.

That's a lot of rambling just to say "I'm an independent, therefore I'm the supreme authority on all matters trucking. The rest of you should just pick up a box of crayons and a coloring book". 😉

Because your knowledge of purchasing insurance over any motor carrier is so much superior.

Our nco chain of command had a saying in the army.

"Stay in your lane....."

It's just as applicable in civilian life as well.

Your arrogant ignorance is shining again.

The ability to be self insured is not as likely or prevalent as people think they are.

Most self insured incidents are for drivers going through flower beds and stupid stuff that shows up on YouTube, Facebook or Twitter.

Even Werner and others will be underwritten by a provider for catastrophic stuff for protection.
Well that's about as stupid as a box of rocks.

Are you really uninformed enough to think that the likes of Swift have commercial insurance for their million dollar fuck ups?

And that pathetic nonsense about tort reform is really stupid. That will never happen as long as lawyers are elected to Congress.

I guess them having red Rock risk listed on their 91X then is just a front.

Yeah the ATA wanted to “level the playing field” because werner was pissed about being forced to run tachograph or aobrd.
This lie needs to die.

Werner wasn't forced to run electronic logs, they petitioned the feds to be able to do so. It was a money - saving move on their part, drastically reduced auditing expense and also made training drivers easier.

another part of why tort reform is so critical

Uh huh... and yet we have those grifters in Congress wanting to up the ante to 5 million. And what about those who really are severely injured by incompetent seatmeat?

They will never be able to strike an adequate balance between protection from frivolous lawsuits, and adequate compensation for those that deserve it. Especially with the "deep pockets" approach of suing everyone in sight with money that's accepted by the courts today.

Then everyone in the world should stop perpetuating it. Your are the only person I have ever heard of who thinks Werner wasn’t mandated by the government to do it. Even @Sinister who doesn’t typically agree with anything I say will sing that same song.

If it was voluntary, Werner could simply develop a system and start doing it. No petition necessary.

You don't need a government mandate to make you restrict yourself further than the government requires. (And by that I mean actually force HoS compliance from your drivers).

I don't know jack shit about commercial truck insurance, nor have I claimed to. I'm not the one you're arguing that topic with. Maybe the ones you are trying to pull rank on because you're a "motor carrier" instead of a lowly owner operator have looked into it. Maybe some leased O/O's are fully aware of what their authority pays per truck.

Comparing the forum to channel 19 because someone other than a "motor carrier" dares to participate in a thread on the business side of things is pure arrogance.

Yeah i know it's shocking that I'm defending ironpony of all people. 😅

You're not helping. 🤬

Maybe he knows something we don't.

What's your source on the story that they were forced into e-logs? That's the story I've always heard but it's always been from the rumor mill.

I don't know when they went to e-logs but it was before I was trucking. I remember they sent a recruiter to the community college and he started bragging up their paperless logs and we laughed at him. That was in 2004.

Weener's website says they started in 1998, and got an exemption from paper logs in 2004.

:dunno:
