Life in Sector 7 G.

It doesn't take week to do a clutch adjustment. We park off site so it is more of a logistics issue. Getting someone to drop off a spare truck, take our truck to the shop and then have someone bring our truck back and take the spare.
To answer the question though it can be done outside a shop just a matter of it the guy doing it is willing

I've seen some that will damn near do a full service outside and some that want it inside to swap a headlight on a clear sunny day

First thing in the morning one building is missing a component. No problem we will get that to you right away, everyone please remain calm there is no need to panic :panic:
Just after that the other building is missing a trailer load of components. Line is down
Please hold, we are currently trying to un**** another situation created due to lack of planning.
Yes, we will have the components that you failed to ask for last night to you A.S.A.P.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that **** poor planning on YOUR part does NOT constitute an emergency on our part. Thank you and have a great day. ;):D

Are you on a tape delay?

Assuming he didn't take the whole durn clutch down.

Assuming he didn't take the whole durn clutch down.
That is kinda what I was worried about.
The mechanic came down and luckily he was able to do a clutch adjustment and it's perfect again.
The short legged man is only in the truck for tonight and that's it. Hopefully he doesn't totally blow the clutch plate in one night.

Being a short guy who has trouble mashing it all the way to the floor, I make sure I'm floating as much as possible. I'll probably still go through a lot of clutch brakes though.

If you're short, you're less likely to wear out a clutch brake.

You wear out a clutch brake by pinning it hard against the floor while the truck is still moving.

If you're as short as you say you are, I'd imagine that you wouldn't be able to pin the clutch to the floor and see over the dashboard at the same time unless you're using wood blocks on your feet like the kid in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Don't forget the stack of ancient telephone books do he can even see the top of the dash....

It's usually that first grind when I'm first starting out. It doesn't want to go in unless I make extra effort to put the pedal all the way down.

Not just this Ford but every semi I've ever driven.

Everything else is fine, and I almost never need it.

Unless they're always already worn. I've never driven a truck with a brand new clutch or clutch brake. Always been high mileage POSs from megas and now this 32 year old mess. 😃

That won't burn out a clutch brake. Sticking the clutch to the floor while still in motion will burn the clutch brake, it may shave a bit off the clutch plate, so you are probably ok.

I wear it I think when I try to shove it in without the pedal all the way down. Eg I think I'm down but I'm not quite.

Or am I wearing the gears themselves when I do that?

I made an edit before you posted. You may burn a bit of clutch plate but not the clutch brake.
If you are grinding to get into gear then you will wear down the gear teeth..

The steering wheel is too big to slide the seat any further forward and avoid my chest being in the wheel. So I have to scooch a little to get the clutch all the way down. But in normal operation the clutch is high enough I have to raise my leg to get above it. The brake and throttle are normal, and I can see the entire hood.

I'm seriously thinking about getting a smaller wheel. It's plenty easy to steer so it doesn't need it for leverage.

10-4. Haven't ground them under normal driving, just that initial start as if pulling out of the fuel island.

Put about 200 miles on this truck bobtailing around to get a feel for it so far and drove it through downtown York Pa on the way home from its farm just to get the practice in.

When I got the truck I'm in now the clutch brake was positively wrecked. I mentioned it and get "Well Greg never said nothin."

Maybe GREG is the one wrecked the sumbitch you ever think about that!?!?! Anyhow 15 minute job and my life was changed completely.

I run into that issue at Schneider. "Well your slipseater never said anything."

Ever consider the fact that I haven't had one stick around more than a few months, or they're stupid or don't care or know better?
