Yet more random thoughts... put 'em here

A man or woman shouldn't be made to work more than 10 hours unless he or she chooses to do so. A person knows their limitations for the most part. Pushing someone to their limits is asking for trouble. Further, if a person were paid a wage commensurate to the cost of living at the time, they wouldn't need to push themselves to that limit.

There are always those that live to work. I worked to live. When I'm done, I'm done.

14 hour trucking days is insane to me.

A guy was trying to tell me today that you need a special license to drive a manual in Ontario now.
I was like no you don't! If you take your test in a auto then you have a RESTRICTION on your license and can't dive a manual. If you take the test in a manual you can dive both.
Words have meanings.

There's more thumb action involved.
😂🤣😂

They do make it nice skipping gears in low range, a full gear skip was usually a touch too much, but that skip minus a split was perfect.

Most of those idjits don't realize the only reason the 18's went into normal trucks was the 13's of the time weren't rated for the torque of the big motors when they started breaking the 2000 ft-lb barrier. Which, of course, resulted in the Billy Bigriggers insisting it wasn't a large car unless it had an 18, even after they upped the torque ratings on the 13's.

I'll probably put an 18 in my LTL if I keep it for no other reason than because.

It most likely won't be a work truck at that point. So it'll just be want over need.
There's no doubt an 18 is the crown jewel of modern transmissions, with the most capability and versatility in a simple 1 stick package. So it makes sense in showpiece.

Although the old school part of me would probably put in a set of sticks just for the 'WOW!' factor. That and they are fun to drive when they're just for play.

But, are they ever just for play? I learned on a Twin Stik, then graduated to a 10, then 13, then 15, then an 18 which I really loved for the versatility of it. The 18 was behind a C-16 600/2050 with 3.08 cogs. Yep, it was a stroller.

The 18 double over XH with the 308's left you running in 16th almost all the time. The computer spec sheet showed its max speed at 1900 RPM to be 132 mph. I touched 120 only one time across US 50 in Nevada. Named "The Loneliest Road in America". The speedo needle touched the pin at the 0 mark. Stupid, I know, but I had to see it.

I never drove anything with that much power. It pulled the Rockies at full gross without breaking a sweat.

Don't get me started on the "double over" bs!
What do you mean? BS! I could draw you a picture of the pattern if you like, but you've been around long enough to know it can be done. 8 & 10 position are swapped with 7 & 9 and the splits remain as they were. You go through 10 using them all before you even get to the high side.

All of the RTLO Transmissions are already turned around inside, they have the x shift tower on them to give them a normal pattern. And even though they have two ratios that are Overdrive, the only overdrive in that transmission is in the main box, High split is DIRECT. A true double Overdrive will have three ratios that are Overdrive.

I need to get out my research books again. My shift pattern was anything but normal. And mine was factory installed, not opened up for mods by a wrench. 1,2 & 3, positions were down, while 4 & 5 were against the dash. It was weird to get used to.
