PLOVER, Wis. — After attending truck driver training, Women In Trucking’s President, Ellen Voie, has earned her Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Voie attended the Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) driver-training academy in Cleveland, Ohio, for three weeks in December, and recently passed the CDL driving exam.

“It was an intense three weeks, with ten hour days and frigid temperatures,” Voie said, “but it was also one of the most enjoyable learning experiences I have had.” Along with three other students, Voie completed the written portion of her training after the first week of the course. The final two weeks were spent on the skills pad and on the highway, where Voie and her fellow classmates learned to shift a ten-speed transmission, back a 48-foot trailer, and maneuver through Cleveland’s rush hour traffic.

Am I the only one who finds it surprising that the president of "Women In Trucking" didn't already have a CDL? I found this a little shocking.

LMFAO WhY didn't she have her CDL to begin?
This article makes it sound like she accomplished something but it's nothing that every other women and man in a truck does on a daily basis. Shew write something GOOOOD for us to read! Like a driver helping another driver.
Women get their CDLs all the time. So do men, I'm gonna go get my CDL's and give these people a call and make them do an article on me!! lol kiddin

She's writing a book on it. The weather in Cleveland does suck and so do the roads all over Ohio.

Ok, so she was associated with the ATA, and with Schneider.

Being president of this organization, I imagine this book she is going to write about her experience getting a CDL will make quite a bit of money.

That is what I was thinking Bull. BUT for those that are already drivers like you, jammer, and whoever else will not buy it considering ya already have a CDL so therefore I really thing her audience should have been targeted towards more people. Maybe I should suggest something a little more in depth?

Ellen is the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Women In Trucking, Inc. (WomenInTrucking.org)

Women In Trucking is an organization that was established to encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry, promote their accomplishments and minimize obstacles faced by women in trucking.

Ellen's most recent position was Manager of Recruiting and Retention Programs at Schneider National, Inc. Her role included identifying issues that caused driver turnover and then promoting corporate initiatives to retain and engage drivers.

From March of 2000 through January 2006, Ellen Voie served as the Executive Director of Trucker Buddy International, Inc.,(TruckerBuddy.org) a pen pal program between professional drivers and elementary students. Ellen had served on the

Board for three years prior and had become familiar with the program and its mission, and under her guidance the organization grew to become an internationally recognized mentoring initiative.

Ellen is the chairwoman of the advisory committee to ATA's GetTrucking.com initiative. In 2006 Ellen became chairwoman of the ATA Safety and Loss Prevention Council's Recruiting and Retention committee. Ellen was appointed to the ATA Image and Communications Committee by American Trucking in January 2005.

Also that January, Ellen earned the Certified Association Executive credential from the American Society of Association Executives, the leading authority in association management and a professional society for the association industry.

Ellen's background in the trucking industry began in 1980, when she earned a diploma in Traffic and Transportation Management while employed as Traffic Manager for a steel fabricating plant in central Wisconsin. She later worked as a dispatcher for a grain hauling carrier prior to becoming co-owner of a small fleet. After starting a family, Ellen used her background to become a freelance transportation consultant to carriers in Wisconsin, licensing and permitting trucks for more than 16 years. During that time, Ellen earned her Master's Degree in Communication from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, where she completed her Thesis research on the complex identities of women married to professional drivers.

In her effort to promote the trucking industry to the public, Ellen helped found and organize Trucker's Pride Day in Waupaca, Wisconsin, which grew to include thousands of visitors to this annual truck show. She convinced Governor Tommy Thompson to proclaim the event as a statewide "Trucker Appreciation Day" in Wisconsin. Ellen also worked as an advocate for women married to truck drivers. She assisted in promoting and expanding the Families of Trucker's Support Group, where she was active in providing a network for women who felt isolated because of their lifestyle.

Ellen serves on the Board of Directors of the Wisconsin Motor Carrier Association and the Indiana Motor Truck Association and was a member of the Wisconsin DOT's Motor Carrier Advisory Committee. She was involved in adapting the Wisconsin Driver's Manual to include information on sharing the road with trucks. Ellen is the recipient of the Skinner Humanitarian award, presented annually to a trucking advocate in her state.

Ellen has written extensively about trucking and family issues, and her articles have appeared in print and internet magazines. Ellen has also published a book, Marriage in the Long Run, a collection of some of her most popular columns.

Quite accomplished, isn't she?

I earned my CDL in October (in Northern Nevada) ... just in time for winter. I got to chain my first winter out.

I personally think people sitting in the seats that she sits in should be heavily geared toward being truck drivers and/or former drivers.

Getting a CDL then going to write a book about it, just smells like it was geared entirely toward monetary gain to me.

I don't like the "Women in Trucking" group. And I will never join! To me, any person that says they are an advocate for truckers, women or men, should of had their CDL a LONG time ago.

I find it very interesting - as well as disturbing - a major player in an association hadn't ever acquired a CDL before attaining the position she holds. I'd hold a different view if she had at least been a driver before becoming involved with the activities this organization is involved with and was re-instating her Class A status. Doesn't say much for the organization.

:blah:

I can't imagine BUYING a book about how someone got their CDL ... I went through that experience and to me it isn't all that interesting.

The stories are out there on the road.

The book is being written for those that don't have their CDL.
Ok yall ever read the book "What to Expect While Expecting" LOL thats pretty much about it: "What to Expect when getting yourr CDL"

I think it was a fairly decent idea and there are books out there written by people that are in different areas and have no clue. Should be ok I believe.

Um, I have been getting beat to death over there because I just got my CDL 13 months ago and have treated like I deserved to be mistreated because I am new.

I just got quite a shocker privately & this thread pretty much covers the gist of why no one cares about Women being harmed while the are Students and never making it past their 1st year of trucking.

Women are a Tax Credit and an untapped reserve of recruitment profits...do the math.

No one much cares if you succeed though, only for a limited period of time.

I've had many Women call and email me since I started my Student Trucker Story with some horrible stories and injustices, much worse than my story.

Bad thing is no one wants to get involved, Like, NO ONE!

They esspecially don't want company names mentioned , that might hurt commissions, public appearences, sales and so forth.

What sucks is real violence is occuring to human beings.

This Ellen Voie is a joke. She is the president of an association for woman truck drivers. She has never driven a truck professionally, and her going to school to get her CDL was private..one on one with a instructor. Of which she FAILED her driving test, and had to go back to take it over.

Her driving experience is pulling a 38 foot fifth wheel camper out west with her boyfriend/husband or whoever it is.

I think if she wants to be president of an association like this..then the ATA should make her go and get a real job for at least one year. She needs to know what actually goes on, before she try's to run this association. All she is doing is promoting her book...:congrats:

Ellen on being a nobody...

Does Ellen Voie know Paul Jason Cox is Flat Broke?

It seems funny that FlatBroke says this about Ellen Voie but this week is her number one fan....
Does she know about your "issues"
Does she know you are secretly "Truck Driver News"
Seems like you say the same stuff about people.
You say Daniel Audet just wants to be famous, You say I just want to be famous, You say Ellen Voie just wants to be famous, You say Allen and Donna Smith just want to be famous ...

Yet, you tried so hard to be famous yourself and when you were on the brink of recognition you flushed it all down the crapper???

You thought the trucker app was the goose that laid the golden egg and you used me to compete with Danial and you messed it all up all by yourself.

You burned lots of people but mostly your credibility.

You made cartoons of Daniel and now me which show how shallow you really are.
But mostly you hurt Hope Rivenburg, the Widow of Jason Rivenburg when you were the biggest supporter of Jason's law.

You have screw loose Jason
