My wife's grandma used to say dirt will kill you...
but it takes tons...
and it has to fall on you.

She'd say that whenever somebody would mention how dirty the kids got while out playing.

I'm inclined to agree.

One of my grandsons gets hustled to the doc every time he gets a runny nose.
He's sick all the time, or used to be.
He's 15 now and coming out of it for the most part.

My other grandsons are treated like we treated their parent.
They rarely get sick.
When they do they tough it out...
which is why they rarely get sick IMO.

Except for DOT physicals I haven't been to a doctor in 5 or 6 years.
That was because my flesh was rotting away from a spider bite on my butt. :eek:

And don't ask...
I dunno if the spider lived or not!! :mad:

If you want to get sick. Head to the Doctors office or hospital. That is where all the harmful germs are. If you are just not feeling well, Stay home and look after it. And dont pass it on to your fellow workers by showing up to work.
 
I think I mentioned this before but the research lab I worked in was paid to do an experiment. There is a harmless germ that lives for less then 24 hours and is easily detectable and is highly contagious. As people showed up to work they were given a paper to read that someone was infected and to do everything possible to avoid getting the germ. I can't count the number of times I touched my mouth, nose and eyes. Every single person got infected.

Use your elbow to open and close the bathroom door? Put your elbow down on your desk? Pick up that paper now rub your nose!!!

Tell me about it. I slipped seated a truck with a guy that was always sick (cold and flues). I was sick too.

I dont get sick now that i am the only one driving the truck. My germs= good. Other peoples germs not so much.
 
Germaphobes are obsessed with sanitation and feel compelled to clean excessively, but they're really suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder.
 
CNN did a story on germs. They took samples from a NY subway, a public bathroom, the hand rail coming out of a subway and the counter at Denny's.

Denny's won with the most germs. The counter is wiped down with the same cloth that's rinsed in the sink (which does nothing) then spreads the germs everywhere.

They did qualify it's not just Denny's. All restaurants with counters do the same thing.

I wish!! That would be sooooo cool. There's no way to prove one way or another. And other organisms will take over like a yeast infection, etc. I'll find pics!!

At the Wendy's I worked at, there was some kind of "sanitizer" when we washed dishes. It was a triple sink. Soak, wash, sanitizer. After washing a dish, (yeah even fast food joints have an overwhelming amount of dishes, mainly cooking utensils & stainless steel bowls like the sammich toppings go in) it was dipped in the sanitizer then put on the rack wet. The racks were over the sink & the water would drip through the racks & run into the sink.

The sanitizer was some kind of powder that we'd dump in a sink-full of water & stir with something. But at 10PM when we closed the inside, we had to grab one of the bigger stainless steel dishes & fill it with sanitizer & use it to rinse the rag in that we used to wipe down the tables. I think the sanitizer was dehydrated bleach or something.
 
Denny's has the three same sinks with a sanitizer but that doesn't stop the waitresses from using the same rag to wipe down the counters. Just sit at the counter and watch. I do.

The dining room tables needed wiped down continuously all day. But I only cleaned them at night when the place worked because I was a closer. I'd show up around 7 or 8 & flip burgers on the grill til 10PM then I'd clean the dining room while the manager flipped the burgers, then at midnight we'd just down the drive-thru & wash all the dishes & stuff.
I always followed the rules about using the sanitizer water for the rag used on the tables. I don't know about the day shifts.
 
The real point here is that is doesn't matter how dirty the counter is. If your in poor health or a bad immune system your not eating out much. I'm sure you've eaten as much dirt as and we fend off that stuff. I've felt a little crappy here and there once in a while and it was probably my immune system fighting something off. Next time it happens the body says, hey, I know you, lets kill em!

Back in the early 70's I worked at this very fancy restaurant in my town. It was real busy Fri and Sat night. Reservation only. Booked solid all the time. I was the dish washer and had other chores like making the coffee syrup, shucking lobsters and a ton of other stuff. The cooks name was Ike and as the night went on would get drunker and drunker. I would help out more and more and by 10pm I was the cook. At first the owner and his brother would come back and help/take over. They were cooks also. As the months went by they didn't help me anymore. I would always cash my check at the bar and many times there was $100 extra. That was BIG money back then for me.

That was my last job before looking into college. When they found out they offered to pay my full schooling to Boston School of Culinary Arts. I didn't take them up on the offer. This was a wise guy place, I know it. It burned down years later under questionable circumstances. Lots of good memories there. The list of people waiting to get a job was as long as my arm. This was the place to work. Big tips. The waitresses were all really hot and loved to tease me and watch my face turn red.
