What do "YOU" think an "Outlaw Trucker" really is?

Proportionally less of them. We have way more Trucks out there, heck there is more of everything, and less fatal wrecks, and I would bet less drivers having medical emergencies on the road.

Yeah guys I know people did it. Most did not live to tell the tale.

However the fantasy is the belief that it was cool to aspire to be.

People build up these stories talking about real truckers but leave out the wrecked rigs, the heart attacks, the destroyed families.
Running a thousand miles almost every day was no big deal to the outlaws taking power naps then come Home time they would sleep the entire time.I could never live that style nor would I ever want to.

Outlaw used to refer to those hauling g outside their lanes and off book. Then it was about telling the man to stick it while using his roads.

Now you have wannabes doing like you said trying to emulate a myth espoused by people that never knew what the term was about in the first place.

Amen ~

We did it because we knew no better...

The opening scene of Smokey and the Bandit where Jerry Reed is sleeping with his head at the opposite side of the bed.....

He had run so hard he just wanted to get home, and he passed out... just needing a bed... and needing to get out of the truck...

Only to get up and do it all over again... and then some...

Its what we did. Nobody stopped us. A load was already waiting on the other end. Spending more than a few hours in the sleeper berth was inconceivable.

How they spend 10 hours in there and sit in truck stops bewilders me, but it's a different breed. These guys welcome it... it's as much a part of trucking, as NOT taking breaks was to us....(back in the day)

Now the DOT wants to impose more rules.. along with the FMCSA.... govern our trucks, analyze sleep apnea, overweight drivers.... logbooks.... H.O.S.... revise drug testing....

Keep messing with the trucking industry

If you got it, a truck brought it..... what's gonna happen when you can't get it.... yesterday?

Keep messin... see what happens. I guess guys like me with clean records, no accidents, fully endorsed, no failed or refused drug tests will be able to work anywhere we damn well please.. and for whatever money we demand... or it's "Peace out..."

I dont get it....

This is one industry that should be left alone for a while

I remember growing up, in the 80's & 90's my friend JR's dad ran for Single Source (Ruan) and when he was home, he'd be sleeping almost the entire time.

He wasn't a very good guy. Personality-wise he's like a caucasian version of the dad on "Friday". But morally he's more like.... Hillary Clinton.

One time JR's little brother got busted for stealing stuff out of airplanes at the airport & I remember the only thing his old man was mad about was that he got caught. He was yelling "Damn it how many times have I told you that if you're gonna be ripping **** off, don't be stupid & get caught".

There were rumors he was a crackhead but I never personally saw him do anything.

He had an FLD condo cab & brought me & JR on a short run to deliver car batteries to Walmarts in the MNSP area. He needed his mini-thins & asked me to get them out of a cabinet but I didn't know what I was supposed to be looking for, having never heard of mini-thins before. So he got out of his seat, had one foot on the sleeper floor & the other on the steering wheel to keep it straight while he dug out his mini-thins. This was going down I-94 in Wisconsin with the cruise on.

He spent most of the time b****ing about regulations & the "new breed" of drivers.

On the way back we stopped somewhere near Eau Claire at his cousin's house. I remember it was way the hell out on some chip-seal county roads & we had to stop & slide the tandems all the way forward & he still ran it through a ditch turning a corner. At his cousin's farm, the cousin handed us a couple of BB guns & told me & JR to go out & kill some deer. I was old enough to know a BB gun wasn't going to do jack squat to a deer but JR told me it was code for "get the hell out of here while we do something illegal we don't want you to know about".

I've never had an ounce of respect for the guy. Not as a truck driver & not as a person. The only thing I can commend him for is he's never run out on his family. He taught his older batch of boys to hunt & fish. I don't know about the 2nd batch, they're teenagers now. He's raising them by himself now that their mom died a couple years ago.

So I guess he's not the lowest on the moral food chain because he did his best to provide for his 800 kids (who all had the same mom too), but if that's what "old school" trucking is, I don't want any part of it.

7 kids I think. Except the two older daughters are gutter sluts & spray babies out of their aquariums every 9 months so there's a shipload of grandkids.

"Outlaws" were something completely different back then....

It's not a slam against the young truckers today..

Just don't bandy the word around like it's something "cool" because in reality, the "outlaw" truckers of yesterday are no longer with us ~

Bodybuilders can think the same way. As long as you look good dead, it's O.K to take tons of drugs, steroids, etc. to build a "cartoonish" physique.....

It's not funny.... it's not a joke. It was very real and I think that the older guys (not as old as me, but "older none-the-less) who actually know better, and brag about it today are fools. The only thing is; they aren't fooling anyone.

They act like they are a part of the Clandestine "Masons" or something just because they can pull over to the side of the road with their tinted windows, chopped windows, drop visors, truck slammed and stretched... straight tens.... and whip out a little "something-something" that will get them down the road another few hundred miles, the whole time thinking about the next one....

It's a dead-end street... and you ain't "backin' out"

Quit while you are ahead and learn to drive without a crutch.... 'outlaw'

There's a big difference in the outlaw truckers of yesteryear and the ones of today. Big difference. Before the "outlaws" we're decent people, just ran damned hard, two or three log books, triple digits, BUT real good dudes who would help you out and watch out for you and everyone else. Today's outlaw trucker is mainly a scumbag who knows better than everyone else, rude, dangerous and is 4 seconds from losing everything from years of bad decisions. I am the third generation "outlaw" (at least until 2011 when we were forced to go electronic. These "new" outlaws aren't outlaws at all. They're jackasses that the FMCSA and the media uses an example to say we're all bad.

what is an outlaw trucker..??

one who doesn't shave, shower and had skid marks in his unda-wear.

a real 1% er.....
Actually, you're describing more than 50% of drivers.

Most of the 1%ers I know aren't truck drivers at all...and, while they might not all shave, they do bathe and change their underbritches.
