Trucking company sues dead B.C. man for damages caused in crash that killed him

A Saskatchewan trucking company has sued a deceased Clearwater man’s estate in an attempt to recoup funds from a collision in early 2020.

Q Line Trucking, which also has an office in downtown Kamloops, filed a civil claim with B.C. Supreme Court against the estate of Joey Ressler when his vehicle collided with the company’s semi trailer near Little Fort.

Ressler, a 39-year-old man from Clearwater, died at the scene.

The trucking company is seeking over $30,000 in damages.

I guess something like this has happened before, but I can't remember ever hearing about it. Not sure I could file that lawsuit.
 
I dunno. If it was indeed his fault I can see going after restitution. I'd need more facts though. This sounds like going after his insurance, and maybe he wasn't insured.

I get it, I just don't know that I could do it. If it was a situation of a wife and child/children being left behind, I don't think there is any way I could go after their money.

Like you said, though, don't know the whole story, nor the insurance requirements in Canada.

Yeah I'm just not ready to call Q line or whatever it was total dicks yet. His death is obviously unfortunate but that in and if itself doesn't absolve responsibility.

Around here it's just an insurance issue and they don't have souls so you go after them hard.

I couldn't even tell you about that. Every Province has different laws and different insurance regs. I am pretty sure in B.C. insurance is run by the B.C. government. In Ontario insurance is run by private companies. I for example have a million in liability coverage. I am not sure how much the B.C. gov. pays out in liability.
 
it's the insurance company suing the estate...not the trucking company.

it is usual for any insurance company to recoup thier losses. so they go after the one responsible.

this been going on for centuries. (or as long as there have been insurance companies)

with the high inflation rate i think you will see a lot more people without insurance as pole start to choose between necessities like food, heat, housing, if they have too choose between that and insurance I am pretty sure insurance will be the first to go.

I have always had uninsured/underinsured insurance
and it even paid off one time,
my wife cameout of the grocery several years ago and found a car buried in the side of her car, the driver didn't have a dime of insurance, even though we had insurance to cover it the insurance company we had at the time [state farm] tried everything in the book to try to get out of paying, months later and a few letters from out attorney finally got them to pay, a few months after that we changed companies, state farm was a bit upset but as i told them we had been with them 20 years and to have them try to weasel out of pain a legit claim just didn't work for me!

I had a bad experience with State Farm. They should be called Snake Farm!
