Great info, I'm starting my own company as well, I have my own truck but don't own a trailer yet. I'm in Southern California and will be pulling out of here as much as I can. I'm a one truck army looking to go for 100!! I have to say I am scared of going on my own and loosing security, but I have to take the leap. I have multiple friends that run around ten trucks with no desire to add more.
I herd factoring for the first year is a great thing to do...?? Input? I have 100k Cargo instead of 200k, should I change it? I'll be running dry van if I can rent one at a fair price.
I've been using TBS (Truckers Bookkeeping Services) just to make sure I do things correctly. My older brother has a trucking company too, but he only works with the ports. I would ask him for advice, but he is a "know it all, Indian giver, fuck my family, I don't trust anyone" type of person. Did I mention negative in every aspect.
Enough with the therapy, I'm learning from scratch and need a mentor to help me follow through the steps.
