Seen alot of Owner Operators returning back home for intrastate!

I believe the answer lies in this.
I wonder how much it actually costs to live with the 'gators. Must be pretty high if the upkeep requires that kind of driving.

Either that, or the awesome local company he runs for is more of an undermining bidder than what some people claim Swift is.

It is really prevalent in Florida to be honest Injun. That state is it's own little microcosm when talking about port trucks or the intrastate flat beds.

I've done 40+ hours straight numerous times when I was younger.
Now, 8 hours into a 12 hour shift I'm thinking DAMN!! SCREW THIS!!
:D

And just for the record,
I've never done any drugs OTR.
That era was pretty much past when I got started.
BUTT, almost to a man, all the guys that were old timers when I started DID do them...
and didn't have any compunction about saying so.
And they'd be deeply offended if you called them dopers or such.
That's just how it was.
Of all the 50's n 60's truckers I ever knew, none of them ever hurt anybody or crashed a truck.

Not saying it was right, necessarily,
but it was what it was. :2guns:

I had one pal who retired with a 4 million mile safe driving award...
and 5 DWI's.

And they were the same bunch that were known as knights of the road.

Suck on that for a while.

Brother, you're lucky. I came up through the booze and drugs days. Like you said, it's how business was done. But give the impression that everybody was fine and happy on it?? No way bud. I've seen too many drivers die or wind up crippled in one way or another. You cannot and I repeat CANNOT abuse your body continuously by not sleeping. It will shut down on you.... period. Seen it happen and have had it happen to me.

Further, nobody atall came out of that era without ongoing health problems... me included. But I got off easy compared to some of the guys I ran with. There is a price to it and it's steep.

So please don't throw this up like it's some kind of "honorable" thing. It isn't. It's just what had to be done at the time.
