Roadcheck 2021 (May 4-6)

Looks like Roadcheck won't be delayed this year, and is scheduled for May 4-6, 2021. Everything is being inspected, as usual (level 1), with this year's focus being on lighting and Hours of Service (HOS)

Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend this year's festivities as I will be touring through Colorado in the Jeep. Kid is going to nationals this year and the gymnastics meet is in Aurora, CO. After that, we are planning to see some sites in the state for a few days before coming back home.

So, y'all keep me informed on how the party went.

I will be videoing if I can get a good enough view. COVID has made videoing these things almost impossible this year.

Another "give the scales a wide wide berth" week. Or I may coincidentally have a couple days off. Never know when those are coming in our little niche.

Either way at least here locally "half load season" or as I call it go the long way around everywhere season will be over at the end of April. That'll give back nearly limitless options. No reason to go in for any of this fuckery. You've got your head in the sand if you honestly believe it's really about safety.

I wonder if any statistics nerds have ever looked to see if they can identify a short bump in rates or capacity shortages caused by lots of drivers staying home during the annual highway gestapo blitzkrieg, or if it's not a long enough period to have a noticeable effect.

I think ya'll stress way to much about these "safety clamp downs"

"road check" is nothing more than a media event to make it look like they are actually doing something about unsafe trucks.
Simple, pull over the raggedy assed trucks that they usually let slide, bump up the statistics, e.g. 80% of trucks put OOS during road check.
Put the fear into the public and secure next years DOT budget.

Luckily in my part of Texas there are so many trucks and so many of them piles of
crap that the DOT man is fairly easy to avoid.

Once at a job I had a DOT cop came in to our safety meeting and it was mostly a useless conversation he had with us but one thing he said that was a bit of good info was that they look at top of your dashboard and if it’s cluttered/dirty they pull you over.

Today is Saturday in Minnesota. Probably everywhere else too.

Anyway the St Croix supercoop was closed this morning which was odd for a Saturday.

But the DOT has been set up and working in two rest areas since then on the way to Sioux Falls and back. So far.

I think Minnesota is doing their check already.

I still think the advertised dates are a maximum to have the results turned into the feds.
