More than 1,000 miles of bridges across the nation are structurally deficient and in poor condition, according to the American Road and Transportation Builders Association’s sixth annual bridge report. At the current pace of improvements, it would take nearly a century to repair them all.

In its analysis of the recently released U.S. Department of Transportation’s 2018 National Bridge Inventory database, ARTBA found more than 47,000 bridges were classified as structurally deficient. Placed end-to-end, the bridges would span the distance between Chicago and Houston, approximately 1,100 miles.

According to the Federal Highway Administration’s definition, a structurally deficient bridge is one with any component (deck, superstructure, substructure or culverts) in poor condition. On a scale of 0 to 9, “poor” is a rating of 4. A 0 rating (“failed condition”) means the bridge is closed beyond repair, with a 9 rating meaning excellent condition. A “Poor” rating does not imply imminent danger to the public. Closures are only recommended to bridges with a rating of 2. Bridges with a 0 or 1 rating requires closures.

Lol, roads and bridges? Hahaha, big deal. Lets worry about the infrastructure first. 99% of the USA is over 300yrs behind in infrastructure upgrades and repairs. Probably want to fix them first. A few pot holes are no big deal.

We used to deliver without roads, and bridges were wood and crap. So we can live with a few pot holes in the black top, but ya can't live with no water, and sewage running down your road. Although roads etc are infrastructure, they are no were near as important as was breaking and deteriorating in the ground. Bad road, get new tires, bad sewer, rotting polluted water lines, everyone dies. Roads and Bridges are the last thing I'd blow the budget on.

We can multitask.

Yet, when anyone suggests we round up some money to fix this stuff... GASP!! TAXES!!! Oh, no... count me out. We can't have no stinkin' taxes.

You just made my point.
You have no point. You just love it when big government steals from the people and the businesses that employ them.

Government wastes all the money they steal from us, so why let them take any more?

No fat contracts for campaign donors or any other leftist bullshit like requiring only union, minority or women owned contractors who drive hybrid dump trucks and wear flowers in their hair and only hire socialist muslim transgender illegal aliens with AIDS.

When all that kind of bullshit, corruption and waste is eliminated AND they've responsibly spent every cent they already steal from us without our consent, THEN and ONLY then, will we listen to them whining about needing to raise taxes.

Until then, y'all can just wear a parachute when you drive across our decomposing bridges.

No I made everyone else's point. You're just being sarcastically and intentionally obtuse about the reality of government spending.

It's like sending your kid to the store with $5 for bread and milk but they come back with $5 of candy. So you send them to the store again with $7 and they come back with $5 of candy and a $2 soda. Then you send them again this time with $10 and they come home with $5 of candy, $2 soda, and $3 magazine.

You kept giving them more money each time, but still end up with no bread and milk.

This is taxes and our government.

I had to fix that up a little bit so democrats can relate to it a little better and it'll make more sense to them. 😉

OK you two dumbasses - where does the money come from to fix disasters like I81 north of Harrisburg?
The taxes they already take. Or how about the massive amount of money they extort from the users of the turnpike? If they actually spent it on roads and bridges they'd have good roads.

The Turnpike Authority has already been sued for trying to take toll revenue and use it on Philly roads. Let's try again...

When was that? Last I heard they were still using it to fund all sorts of stuff that didn't have anything to do with roads.

It's been some time I think. Spending on roads that aren't turnpike? Bad, bad , BAD!! Spending on commissioner's girlfriend's new car? But of course!
