Rants about newer vehicles

You drive a Volvo though
um no I don't drive a vulva 4 wheeler. for what they charge for them I can buy a bimmer or a benz:confused:. sure I have a 2014 bimmer x5 diesel and my wife has a 2014 GL350 blue tech. if I had a penny for all of the times the GL350 has been in the shop for EGR repairs and nox sensor replacements I could buy a new one:confused::stare1:!! my daily commuter is a 1975 MB 300D with a WVO conversion:usflag:. I trust that car more than I trust this new shit as it has never left me stranded!! the old MB 300D's was the best platform ever built since there like a Russian T-72 :D you just can't kill em. and they will out last any cheap crummy American or jap box on the road today ( this has already been demonstrated just look and see how many 70's and 80's 300D's are on the road today!!! sorry but back in the day but those 350's and 454's among others really weren't the cats meow. most people that own these tanks don't need transmission work until about 600-700k miles on the car:shift: and the engine just runs for ever:yahoo:. though running on veg oil I noticed that you and your passengers get the munchies:D:biglaugh:. they use the 300D'S as taxis over in Europe I don't know why we don't use em for taxis over here since there so reliable!! I remember when I bought my first x5 in 2010 I opened the hood to check the oil level well hell I couldn't find the dip stick:stare1:. so I called the dealer and asked where in the hell the dipstick was so I could check the oil level:rolleyes:o_O. the dealer told me that there is no dipstick and the computer monitors it:eek:

Another annoyance with these new cars is all of the electonic gadgets there total nanny cars full of warning buzzers dangers and vibrators people love em i just wanna push them off a cliff:D

she is beautifull:drool:

Oh yes she is..... but just as a "starting point" for what's in my head right now.;)

Ummmmmmm...... 600 +++ Cummins N14 with a 13 double over. Old-timey 2 spd rearend (3:70/3:00). Custom 8-71 supercharger (F the turbo). Custom double thick lo-profile rad with dual electric fans (1 push,1 pull). No computer BS.

Extend hood about 1 ft and push cab back same so I don't have to cut firewall and keep engine outside cab. Section cab with about 2 ft added behind doors for "elbow room".

Thass just "quickie" off-the-top-of-my-head thoughts. Figure it would take me about 2 years working alone. Whut you think so far???? :D

My major gripe with auto/pickup OEM offerings is that to get what a person does want, they have to take a stack of stuff they don't want, and pay for it. All the OEM's are into packaging of features. All it does is rack up the cost unnecessarily. And they stick stuff on that I neither ordered, is part of a package I selected, is not a government mandate, and I still have to pay for.

Computers control everything. Power windows, door locks, headlights, ... stuff that has always been operated just fine without computers.

Why?

All it does is cause problems.

They sure as hell can give me one though.

I'll sell it!

Duhh. :bonk:

Hell if someone wanted to give me a free Prius I'd take that too .... and sell it.

Look at the dummy's with their eyes pressed into their phone; oblivious to everything around them. The "powers-that-be" don't want people who can actually use their mind for anything but what the "computer" tells them is good and wise.

Gotta make the world fit for it's "rulers".

No I mean, ... in an older car, stuff is controlled by switches & relays. In a newer car, the same stuff is controlled by the computer. You push the button & it "asks" the computer to be nice & send power down the right wire that makes the thing happen that you want to happen. There's no reason for it.

Oh, I understand Duck. Nice, simple switches that could be replaced without disassembling the whole vehicle and didn't cost you several paychecks.

id'e only take the older benzes:). not none of this modern horse :poop:. we own one and it's been nothing but a POS:stare2:. i'll take my chicken fryer anyday:D. you couldn't give me a prius either well ide sell it but I refuse to drive anything with 300 volts going under the drivers seat:D. and a prius does more harm to the environment than a hummer from the cost of manufacturing to storing the electricity to the recycling process.

Remote keyless entry made the power door locks computer controlled. People are too lazy to put a key in a lock & turn it. They'd rather push a button on a keychain.

My car,... Take it out of Park and it locks the doors. That could be done with simple switches but my mom's van, as soon as you hit 15 mph the doors lock. Damn computer controls that.

Push the button to lock or unlock the doors on my car and the lights flash. Remote door locks could still be done without being tied into the "body control module" except some idiot thought the headlights should flash.

My interior light,.. Could be controlled directly by the pin switch in the door except some idiot decided that the interior light should stay on for 30 seconds or until you get the key in the ignition, then fade out on a dimmer.

My car's BCM was replaced about 8 years ago and ever since then, the trans kicks hard like a pickup with a tow kit and the speedometer reads a few mph fast.

And who's the ass hole who thought the stereo system needed to be tied in with the speedometer so it turns the volume down when you stop?

Computers controlling everything, and yet as far as I know, no cars have been programmed to turn on the headlights when the driver turns on the windshield wipers even though every state law requires headlights on in the rain, and the roads are covered with idiots who like to drive invisible cars beside semi-trailers in the rain and then act all freaked out when they almost get run over
