Nitrogen filled tires

Saw this at the tire shop today.
Talked with the manager who gave me some good anecdotes from local drivers on this. It's simple, costs about $15 per tire and it works great.

Drexan Nitrogen Tire Inflation Trial

The nitrogen molecule is bigger so it doesn't leak or change pressure like air.
Runs cooler so tires last a lot longer.

I have heard about this recently, would love to hear from people that actually use this technology and hear their feedback on it.

I only got anecdotal info today, but one guy (small,4or5 truck co.) hasn't checked fuel mileage but his drivers leave with 100psi and come back with 100psi - never changes day in and day out.
Another one said his front tires cupped all the time. When he switched it stopped.
Apparently it has to do with chemistry of nitrogen. It's not dangerous, it's used in scuba ya know, and I don't know all of the environmental benefits but it probably comes from extended tire life and retreads that cut down on oil consumption.

When every dollar counts - it sounds smart to me.
Remember this is a guy trying to sell tires who told me about this - something that makes them last longer and they've got a good, long reputation here.

Started cupping using the nitrogen, or stopped cupping when using the nitrogen? I assume the latter, just want to be sure.

Correct, his front tires always cupped, when he switched to nitrogen - problem gone.
I don't know if he had front end problems or just cheap tires but it worked.

I put an end to the steers cupping by putting centramatic balancers on. But the larger molecule bs is what caught my attention. This sounds like a very effective cost cutting idea. Although you would think there would be some big trucking industry news about this during these current economic times...instead of just a tire retailer. Need to research this, and if it works like he says it will...get the info out to the many which need to know things like this. I am a little surprised the company owner is not monitoring his fleets fuel mileage. Just thought I'd mention that.

I haven't made comment in some time about this...but we have a link to a site (Bi-Tron) that produces a product used by EMS and police vehicles across the country. It's an additive put in the tires which prevents blow-outs from punctures. We've personally tested it by driving a vehicle over a board filled with 20 16d nails. 1 pound pressure loss. And the ad video shows a police officer shoot a 45 caliber into the tire of an ambulance, and then drive the vehicle off.

My site link's in my signature. Go to the main site page and look for the "Go Green" image link down on the right.

When I said he wasn't monitoring fuel mileage I don't think he meant ever.
In article it improved but only 3-5%. So that wasn't what got his attention it was consistent pressure and tire life.
Just clarifying.
And yes I was wondering in today's economy why I hadn't heard this before.
Study was two years ago and I think the guys around here have been doing it for a while.

I hear ya, Rebel. Didn't mean to make it sound like he never does. I would think it to be a major piece of information to know what the fleet fuel mileage average would be with this product.

I must admit though, I had my schooling from family members which taught me well on succeeding as an O/O. One of the most important items to watch with diligence is fuel mileage. And I'm not saying anything more than the need to test this product first before being sold on it...and this comes mainly from what's being read. I think if this product performs to what is being stated...we should all be sharing this information with everyone.

Personally...I hate egg on my face...lol...how 'bout you?...lol

Me too.
I haven't personally used it but like I said these guys in town wouldn't have any reason to tell me wrong. They survive on word of mouth.
I will try to track down his customers and see if they'll post here though.
The more the merrier, Bull?

Haven't spoken to O/O or companies yet.
Stuff on internet is all BS. Lot's of theories but even Consumer Reports dropped the ball.
Tested passenger car tires (30 psi vs. 100 psi) and didn't even road test, just inflated and tested pressure a year later stored in a warehouse probably.
The one convincing fact I found that has proved reliable in the past is this - NASCAR uses it.
Nuff said?

Have to admit, if NASCAR is using this product...there may be something to it. Although do remember...NASCAR is the proving ground, and this may not have been thoroughly proven to be beneficial or not. And not all products beneficial to the racing industry and small vehicles industry, are going to be beneficial to the trucking industry.

True, but those boys know something about tires. They've been doing it for a few years now, but you'll find sites on internet that tell you it's not legal in NASCAR. Typical internet BS, I'll still try to get real answers from real people and post them.

I'll try to get some info tomorrow.
Had other stuff going on today...did you see latest on TRUCC act? Just made 2nd call to DeFazio's office.
