I forget where I was in Minnesota, the road was sheer ice.
They are about the same Longitude as Winnepeg, (Winterpeg) and they have the same Attitude toward maintaining the roads and I believe that is...Nature brought it, nature can take it away.

I haven't ever been further west than Pittsburgh in a big truck. US 6 at Tunkhannock is about as north as I've ever been. As a driver anyway. I've been to Buffalo with my dad back in the day.

Yeah, he needs to get him a bunk and go exploring. There is still some vast, wide open roads to drive in here in the US. The northeast hell hole has to be about as bad as LA or the upper mid-west. Hit the lower mid-west and western states. You don't really have to cross the Rockies, but that is some beautiful travel roads in spring, summer and fall. Mountains in the winter are good places to stay away from.

I'm not like NE NE so it's not THAT bad I don't think although I've never been there.

I81 isn't getting any better though.
