Cow catcher, grill guard, whatever ya' call 'em, they look rough and tough on a truck. I want one. Will they stand up to minor impacts and how hard are they to deal with as far as opening the hood and such?

Most of them have a pin (or two) on the lower section. You just pull it out and lay it forwards to then open the hood. It's takes about the same effort as opening the hood.
