Mega Carrier Celadon Group to File Bankruptcy, Cease Operations

Wow that is a shocker. 3000 jobs gone! I feel bad for the workers.

The article doesn't say if Celedon Canada/Hyndman will be closing also.
They are shutting down Hyndman too. I called a few of the guys from Hyndman that I know this morning and my company is taking them right away. I left a few messages with some of my other contacts and let them know we'll take them.
I saw some Hyndman drivers taking some Celadon trailers toward Calgary yesterday, so it's a good thing they turned the fuel cards back on because they did turn them off over the weekend.

well not knowing how old you are or your length of time in the business, but decades ago, there was a huge debacle on the truth in lending laws, and the lease/purchase programs.

way back when, i had applied to the various companies, Greenfield Express, Schanno, Don Frymiller, Arctic Express, and yes of course, Prime.. (this was all done by snail mail, and phone calls as there wasn't any internet back then, let alone people with personal desktop pc's...)

Prime was the only company at the time, to send me a drivers settlement sheet, so i could see what he earned, and what they automatically deducted. (no other company, complied with my requests, only thing they wanted, was for me to fill out a bank application for a lease/purchase deal, on brand new equipment, save from Don Frymiller, who had nothing but high mileage garbage to be leased.

i went thru that sheet, line by line, and in the end, i saw that working as a company driver, i was 1000% better off, and actually made more money, with company paid health benefits as well..

one by one, those companies fell under various lawsuits, again, the truth in lending laws as i said.

i think only Prime and Don Frymiller survived, that fiasco..i am not sure if Schanno still exists however.

this is the reason why i said the reason why Prime called itself, "New Prime".....

The suit that was filed against Prime for that was dismissed with prejudice - meaning the judge found it was without merit, and could not be reinstated.

ok, i could only remember bits and pieces, of that debacle, with all those companies, and others who's names i cannot recall, which made me think that was the reason to go from Prime Inc, to New Prime Inc..

Saw a transport topics article earlier, sounds like they're trying to do the right thing, including getting everyone paid.

Not that you'd know that from channel 19, I mean social media.
I doubt any driver will get paid. Drivers are bottom of the Totem pole on the creditors list.
I know they said if the drivers follow instructions and return equipment to they yard they will get paid. i doubt that. They are just looking to mitigate the financial damage from secured creditors.
Is the sign on bonus still going to be paid out?

They have already filed with court to try and get everyone paid. They apparently have O/O's as well. Whether or not the court approves it is another matter. The article listed the amounts, they currently have more assets than debts, so the drivers should be ok. But you never know... my family lost almost everything with the Rock Island closed because the employees didn't get there money.

So fast forward to recently... Swift got in trouble because of all of their accidents, and had to come to some sort of merger with Knight to stay afloat. Prime figured that one out, and started limiting truck speed. In '09 they cranked it down some more before fuel prices spiked.
Bullshit. Jerry Moyes is in his late 70s and wants to retire. He sold most of Swift stock to the Knight boys, who have been after him for the company for decades. Jerry didn't have any kids of his own he could trust the company with, so he agreed to merge with Knight, keeping 25% interest in the larger conglomerate. Had nothing to do with crash data. This exchange occurred just as I was getting ready to leave Swift, not because Swift did anything wrong to me, but because it was time for me to do something other than what I was doing when that drunk took my truck out...and damn near took me out, too. The dedicated account lost its luster after that and I wasn't interested in going back OTR. So I found a small regional company. That was in 2017. Anyway, stop trying to sound cool spouting off about crap you don't know about.

I was at Prime when they started cranking down the speed limiter. I had one of the last 76 mph trucks because I just somehow never had time to get by the terminal to get it done. That truck still ran 76 mph when I turned it in. I remember being in one of those meetings when they were yapping about that. Somebody asked, "What are they gonna do next?" Unable to keep my trap shut, I answered loudly, "They're gonna give us those blue and white triangle stickers to put on the trailers like Schneider so the Amish know which side to pass us on."
Welp. That was the end of the meeting for that day because nobody could stop laughing. I was asked to find a load for the following day.

Your right, it had nothing to do with the crash data. There were some articles in the trucking business press that stated they were having financial problems, and the financial liability due to crashes pushed the issue over the edge. That's what I recall.

I am right. It had everything to do with an old man wanting to do old man stuff and not wanting to destroy tens of thousands of people's lives by just shutting it down. He was tired. And I don't blame him.
I was going to add something to that effect. And I agree, he'd probably had enough of fixing it, and just wanted a safe p!ace for the company to land.

What the hell does this have to do with Celadon? Whenever there's something kinda big in the trucking industry going on, Mike wants the related threads kept on topic for search rankings or something.
You can get [USERGROUP=3]@Administrators[/USERGROUP] clean this up if you want.
