I was curious @DrDaliah. Many years ago I worked with a guy and his wife finished medical school but was passed over twice for an internship. He told me she was pretty much done at that point. She ended up getting a job cleaning medical tools at a hospital.

Anyways. I have a friend who's daughter wants to be a doctor but she seems to be on coast.

So, my question is this. Can you be guaranteed an internship if you join the Army or a branch of the service? Do they take anyone who finishes medical school?

Yes I believe, but I'm puzzled how one could be passed up for internship unless it was during two years where schools were maxed. You choose your top 10 and the schools choose their top 10-15 and a match up takes place. Those who don't match scramble for availability at the hundreds of schools left. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone graduating medical school and not getting into an internship unless they went to a foreign school. But even foreign grads secure spots here in the States.
