As for Auto's - I'll say they're a different way of driving vs manuals that you'll need to get used to how they respond on hills an ice - know how they shift or prevent shifting.
As for the mention of never going back to manual, job wise I'll drive whatever that pays me a living ! Though after driving a Volvo hybrid a manual want to be auto changed my mind & loved it, it's a auto but can still be used as a manual very driver friendly, the Western Stars auto were fully autos. If I could drive a Volvo hybrid forever I would, forget manual shifting !
The only “automatic transmission” I’m aware of is an Allison.
The rest are automated manuals.
Actual manuals that are computer controlled and have programming logic that outthinks any human.
The guy that installed my 2.64 gears this summer gave me an inside look at an ultrashift 18 and an RTLO 18 spd. Came out of a truck with an “experienced driver”. (Over 2 million miles experience). Yeah right. Every slide clutch in that transmission needed to be changed.

. Especially when you set them side by side to an ultrashift.
The AMT transmission has issues when the steering wheel holder doesn’t do their daily maintenance draining tanks and the mechanic decides to skip changing the air filter because, “ we just did it last year. It’s good. It don’t look rusty on the outside.”
These emissions trucks are having issues, I’m learning, because drivers, mechanics and fleets are too fucking cheap and lazy to do even the most rudimentary maintenance on them.
Goes into a discussion about people not being able to have a reasonable conversation.
Not that you can’t have a reasonable conversation...
But how are you going to have a “reasonable conversation “ when the bastards can’t even critically think for themselves.
