J.B. Hunt buys furniture maker Bassett’s trucking subsidiary

J.B. Hunt is acquiring the transportation subsidiary of furniture manufacturer Bassett Furniture Industries Inc.

J.B. Hunt Transport Inc., a wholly owned operating subsidiary of J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc., has entered into an agreement to acquire the assets of Zenith Freight Lines LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bassett. The deal is valued at about $87 million, according to a news release.

Once the transaction is completed, the new owner of Zenith’s assets will enter into a long-term agreement to continue to provide transportation services to Bassett for almost 50 years.

I don't recall which companies I've seen with an understated JB Hunt sign on the door, but there's several I see in Colorado on a regular basis pulling curtain sides

Steelcase up here had some nice trucks a few years ago but I haven't seen them in a while, but then again I don't get out much.

Steelcase up here had some nice trucks a few years ago but I haven't seen them in a while, but then again I don't get out much.

They are or were black rigs and black trailers with just a little operated by JB Hunt on the door. Almost like they were ashamed to have to admit it.

Well yeah that's pretty obvious. Cheaper to use your general equipment otherwise.

Or JB isn't supplying the equipment. I don't know how that particular contract works. They probably are, but I'm not going to loudmouth on assumptions.

Schneider does the same thing for Harley Davidson. The Schneider decals aren't as small as the "Operated by JB Hunt" on the Steelcase though.

Yep. Needed a trailer, they had them sitting on the yard in Wisconsin, and I took it. More than once, lol.

I pulled Mexico only trailers for USX before. If that's what they had and I needed one, it's what I'm taking.

One of them didn't have a license plate so maybe that's why. I made one out of cardboard and even wrote TENNESSEE in all caps with the sharpie.
