I gotted my CDL.......

Of course nobody here will believe it because everyone that started at the bottom has to bring others down to their level but....... Go get your cdl and start driving truck without the bs of worthless schools, mega companies, and any of that insanity.

It can be done and its not that hard. It just takes a bit of determination and ambition. I did it.

Far as I’m concerned the SAFER data for large companies is not a defense. Mostly when making fun of them people are talking about all the crap that happens that’s not DOT reportable, which those who defend large company stupidity seem to either forget or ignore.

That said, I think any training at all is only as good as the person receiveing the training. Are they listening? How much did they absorb? Are they forgetful? Prone to stacking mistakes instead of coming to a stop after the first one and worsening their situation?

And most importantly, can they learn from their mistakes?

The guy I’ve mentioned who works here has almost 20 years experience, and has been a nightmare at a company reputed to can people like him in a heartbeat. He’s done nothing but screw up for a year plus now. To the point where they took him out with one of our Certified Driver Trainers and have him another road test. I’d heard they were going to retrain him with a CDT also.

The idiot hasn’t learned his lesson about the damn cell phone either, and still calls me several times a day, which I continue to ignore.

Im torn between blocking his number entirely, and answering the phone and unloading on his stupidity.

We live under the cloud of Walmart saying at any time “We need the inward facing camera uncovered. This is mandatory.”

And we’ve got this idiot and who knows how many more like him.

Honestly at this point I don’t care that he used to be a pretty good friend, I want him gone.

Maybe that’s vindictive, but I don’t want to be on camera because of someone else’s idiocy.

Nobodies saying you can't go get it.

But to think a school will make you a truck driver is a fallacy.

They simply teach you to pass a state requirement to obtain a license to Operate a vehicle to a minimum federal level.

That’s what the students are saying too.

Far as this article goes, @ironpony description is much more rigorous.

Given some of what goes on, you’d think it’s very hard...

I agree to a point but i'm assuming "most" of the guys here excluding a couple of the village idiots are professional drivers. Do they really think driving trucks is that hard and you need some mindless hours of class to do it?

Honestly I think something is needed. Starting with basic highway etiquette.

The Somalis running out of the twin cities are almost as crazy as the Eastern Europeans running out of Chicago.

Driving the truck isn't the issue.

As was said. Highway etiquette as well as mechanical aptitude with the equipment is seriously lacking.

Are you saying some mega company or school training is going to give you any of that?
Nope.

Society has taught people being mechanical of any type is irrelevant

Fire that sucker up and run it till it falls apart.

But hey, I'm just to serious about everything......

Society hasn't taught anyone anything. If someone wants to be mechanical they will be.

That's why our technical trades are downplayed and promoted less than a college degree.

That’s actually changing a bit.
The “student loan crisis” constantly being in the news has changed lots of young minds.

even my 13 year old has already said he’s not interested in college.

Of course we’ve yet to figure out what he is interested in besides being a smartass but I tend to think that’s genetics...

If you don't have etiquette schooling isn't going to teach you it.
That's what the "mentoring" is about. CDL school is about the nuts and bolts that get a student past memorizing the pretrip, getting around the truck, slaughtering some cones and getting past the check drive.

Yup, got a CDL. Does that make him a truck driver? NO!

That period afterword, paired with an experienced truck driver is what does it. Someone who shows the new CDL holder how it should be done.

Maybe YOU didn't need that, but we all have apparently seen many who could benefit from a strong dose of mentoring!

I always get a laugh at the inbred supertruckers who key up and say "ah din go no fancy CD ale skool. One day win aye was ten years old, muh gran-pappy just tossed me the keys to the old Corn binder twin stick 'n' sez "you scratch muh geeerz an' imma smack you seely bo-ah!"

Something tells me these phonetic renderings weren’t much of a stretch for you...

Oh that’s right you just got back from Missourah...
