I-80 through Joliet, IL

IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation) has released a graphic explaining the plans for widening I-80 through Joliet, replacing the ancient iron bridges across the Des Plaines River, and some other stuff it's going to take 30 years to complete.

The actual bridge replacement is set for 2027, as if it will last that long without falling into the river.



Amazing accomplishments so far that they're proud of include filling pot holes and putting up an electronic sign.

Run down 39 to El Paso and use 24 into Remington anyway. It's about 8 billion times safer than have any OD on 80 at all ever.

This steel plate is covering a hole in the decking of a bridge. Not the iron bridge but elevated roadway over a ghetto neighborhood.

The bolts aren't tight and the plate slams down a couple of inches every time a tire hits it. And those bolts are going to pop a tire.

Good thing it's winter and there are no motorcycles out.

Stay outta the middle lane if you're eastbound over Chicago Street, (just east of the iron bridges).

Wow! i have seen steel plates put down to cover huge holes dug. I have never seen them tried to be bolted down.
I am not sure how they keep the steel plates in place but bolts are clearly not the solution.
