How do you park your truck?

I was taught to set all brakes and put manual transmission in neutral. It always seemed to me that low or reverse would give a little insurance in case the brakes didn't hold. How do others do it?

Wanna get Scaled Out screw ya pal..

Oh after dark the Pee-Lot just let's ya pull at the pumps & I got shower credits too , uh hit the McDonald's & I gotta do laundry too pal that my last "Clean" change of clothes

Now if you're a "Real-Gangster" ya way back out in the "Deep-40" because ya don't want "nobody" seeing walk back & forth the store buying just "enough" Natty Ice Tall boy cans level ya out all that Coffee, Mtn Dew, and Sudafed ya knocked back so ya might sleep 2/3 hours before the 10 Elogs Up and "Ready 2 Roll" at 2/3 o'clock in the morning

This also rolls into "Situational"...

Take like the North Little Rock Petro Route 40 Arkansas..

There ya wanna be in a spot by the shop because that's 24/7 big $$$ & won't let the retards block that .

Now "Back Row" it'll be Make -A -Spot every freaking where ya cannot even pull outta the joint without almost "wrecking"..

So if ya coming thru Little Rock Petro I-40 better be here Daylight & take a nice pull-up by the shop and they don't let that fly by shop ..

Or at 3/4 ya might not be able get outta the joint

That'll teach you to ask a simple question around here. You ended up with 4 responses that had nothing to do with your question.

Never park a truck in gear. The brakes on today's vehicles will automatically set when the air pressure drops too low.

Depending on where you are, set the trailer brakes first, then pull forward against the kingpin and set the tractor brakes. This will help you to be sure no one pulls the pin on you while you are away from your truck. Idiots today will do that just to sit and watch you drop a trailer.

Pretty sure you are old enough to remember the single can brakes and landing gear had wheels for some reason. If you didn't air up the trailer before coupling, the trailer would shoot right through the fence behind it. :D

Why would I mention a fence? No reason, The fence was already like that. With a trailer in it.

As for the OP, The brakes on trucks and trailer are pretty solid as far as stopping power. Just look at how forklifts drive in and out at Plaid speed and the truck never moves. I would say if it makes you feel better then leave the truck in first or reverse.

IMO wheel chocks should be deemed redundant at this juncture.

in neutral, all brakes set, and if parked at a dock door, chock the wheels. if parked slightly downgrade, chock the wheels.

never in gear, it is possible the engine could start, (if it got to rolling) it is also possible that if someone had the keys and had been told to move the truck, he/she may assume the transmission is in neutral. which would be a mistake, to assume, but it happens.

then too, lock all doors, roll up windows.

Nah I'm disagree here pal..

If parking not level before ya pull parking breaks see which way she rolls for a second..

Then after if forward ya throw the shifter in reverse.

If it rolls more backwards pop the shifter into 1st gear ..

And if your parking brakes fail that still ain't gonna "Roll" either

I always park in a yard & flat yards, so I'm different from these OFT folks.
Pick a spot and pull truck brake, end of story.
Yes ALWAYS NEUTRAL if a manual transmission.

At least ol "Uncle Birchy" didn't start "rambling" about his time in "prison" thirty "years" "ago". I skimmed through all that "rambling" and was "surprised" that he didn't.
Saved my freaking life and I'm now a "citizen" trying to scramble so I can be set up enough to live off my social security and Medicaid & donate plasma and part time temp service for my having fun money

My own 4 wheeler is a 5 speed and my driveway slopes slightly going to street ya always use parking break but if the cable were to snap resting on opposite gear will prevent rolling..

You can do the same with a big truck on a 9 or 10 speed Hi-Low but ya can't leave the truck "Idling" like that..

But if ya ever worked at places where your Home Yard was gravel lots and less than "maintened" you can shut down go home like that..

Again people & Please always USE the Parking Brakes no matter What..

Resting a Stick shift in gear is a "Just Incase"

Follow these tips to park your used pickup safely: Double-check the mirrors: You must be able to judge the gap and distance precisely while reversing. Adjust your mirrors properly and take care to negate the blind spots of your truck. Take adequate space: A truck needs a lot of space to maneuver.
An 18 wheeler requires WAY more space to maneuver than my used pickup. 😎

That explains why they still got the clowns over at Drive Test wanting guys to air them before they pin them. What I really wonder what kind of mouth breather fuckery happened to provoke them to no longer have people open the hood for a "pre trip"?

I'll add to the OP. In really cold weather do not set the trailer brakes unless you're dropping it or really like swinging a sledgehammer on the ground.
