Home Solar Power Systems, On or Off Grid

hell with you talking about hauling buckets of water and choppin wood you make it sound like your a little ole lady living in the woods in a tiny house:rolleyes:
I think she is. o_O

And I think she still has that horse in her bathroom cuz when I asked her if she ever got it out of there, she got kinda snippy & called me something to the effect of "wise guy".

So... incorporate your OWN power company...

If you must be connected to an utilities company, BE your own utilities company.
That's why I laugh when the redneck types say that when society collapses they'll go live off the land out west somewhere. Hunt deer & wabbits for food.

Yeah that'll work for about 2 weeks. Deer will be extinct in a month.
come on i laugh when half of them say they will go off the grid and they fail hard:biglaugh:. with all of this tree hugger tech it's very possible to live partly off the grid in the city:cool:. it's also good knowing that i am saving my power co 9 tons of coal a year by being a tree hugger;) and it's nice knowing that my kids aint breathing in 9 tons of fly ash every year.. now i could honestly give a rats ass about the commies at CARB though:usflag:

What law allows a power company to do that?

Sounds like California residents have some shooting to do.
well you must not know there were now forced to install hybrid heat pump water heaters by law:confused-96:??? i hate those fucking things they sound like a damm server while running. and when it's heating the water in hybrid mode using the heat pump the fucking thing is air conditioning the garage:bonk:. and you did know that CA is the most expensive place to dig a fucking trench:confused-96:

Harbor Freight has a bunch of solar stuff.

Three 15 watt panels combined for 45 watts, allegedly... $200.

I'd like to know how they rated them at 45 watts. Is that in direct sunlight at high noon, or is that an average over the course of a day from dawn to dusk during clear blue sky?

:dunno:

My dad said it's more likely a fraudulent claim, with just enough science in it they can't be sued.

He explained how Rigid was able to "legally" rate the tiny little motor in my shop vac at 6 hp using "democrat math"... Damn thing draws 15 amps or less at 120 volts,... 6 hp my ass...
all that junk is good for is powering up your LED lights in the barn

Still messing with the idea of solar yet!!! Thinking passive....To me off the grid is when you out in the sticks building a lean to out of cut pine limbs and making a bed out of pin needles, setting a snare for a wild rabbit, building a pit for a fire, or hauling water from stream...ect that is off the grid....But if you on the grid money is the main requirement for everything. For me to invest into a geothermal system would be very foolish on my part....For two reasons I have only myself to look after and second my needs are small.
you ever get the solar project going:confused-96:

I messed with it some even talked to people out here that had solar installed in their places. weight the pro and con's But no did not put anything into action yet. Another reason I not done anything in that department is I not real sure I will stay in this area.

my next place will have solar and geo thermal:). wind is still iffy with me right now. though the next house will be grid tied since i'll be out of this communist state.. i debated for years on getting solar myself with the cost and pay back times since they were all over 100k:confused:.. but my goal is to be 100% net zero and LEED platinum certified;). i like NOT having power bills wich can kill you i like having gas bills wich are super low under $5.00 a month:) since i don't use gas to heat the hot water that's all comes from solar and the water furnace and we have 2 50 gallon buffer tanks to store hot water plus the POS hybrid heat pump water heater wich is electric. right now my big debate is going all eletric since i will be generating more power than i use in the new place:dunno:.

For me everything been put on hold as far as any future plans....You are in a much larger place than I am and yes it would probably benefit you more to run that type of system especially for a very long period of time and given the fact that where you be setting permanent roots to retire for the rest of your life. I not one to spend money on a place where I not sure I will stay.

what everything's been put on hold:eek: are you saying that your slowing down again:confused-96::stare1:. yes i am in a much larger place than you are. yes it does benefit me to run this kind of system as the savings are great though it's gonna take seven years for the system to pay back for itself. but on the plus side of things i will be able to sell my house for more when i am ready to sell out and my house will sell faster than one that don't so either way i recoupe the cost wich can be insane:eek: especially the geothermal system:stare1: that was a triple bypass:eek::D:biglaugh:!!!! i am designing my retirement home i have been working with a builder e-mailing ideas back and forth and gabbing on the phone. my next house will be much smaller:rolleyes:!!! there's lots of work involved in designing a net zero house even down to where the windows are placed

:dunno: why you cannot stay in step....Hurry up....slow poke.... Glad my place is small takes less $$$$ to operate it...Leaves more $$$$ for fun and travel.

i can stay in step. slow poke my ass:stare1:!!! yes i do have a large house and it costs a fortune to run it:stare1:. though i will be going into something smaller once the kids are gone:yahoo: that day won't come fast enough:D:biglaugh:... i still plan on installing these systems. as i would want my next house to be a net zero house though the next one will be grid tied so the power co gives me a check:rolleyes: on what ever i generate and i don't use.. though geo thermal would be the first thing that i installed!!! there's lots of solar energy in the ground why not use it:confused-96:.. it is nice not being dependent on rented energy:stare1::coocoo:.. and since i will be doing a custom build i can roll it all up in the mortgage payments and start saving from day one!!! geo thermal is very expensive hell it's the most expensive system to install. sure you can get it for around 20-30k but that's more than likely a basic single zone system without water heating and no pool heating on and on.. but it's efficiency ratings is 400%-500% rating and it doesn't crap out like a regular system does on hot days:D and in the winter the air don't feel all dry like it does with a gas or oil furnance because there's no flame and there's no hot and cold spots like there is with a regular system.. a net zero home should be todays standard!!! it's pretty amazing to only have to use $1.00 of power and get $4.00 of heat in return!!!
