Well, I found one company that does hazmat. The agent told me that I have to have four years recent experience as a driver and two years in business before they'll let me pay $30,000/year for the coverage. I guess I'll table that discussion for now. Thanks for your help. I mostly intend to haul reefer freight anyway. I'm thinking the amount of loads I'd be missing won't justify the cost even after I meet their prerequisites.

I’m sorry don’t know about hazmat but we have progressive. We have also just started our own company. Did you have a hard time getting an apportioned tag. We live in Alabama and I’ve called Alabama revenue number for assistance and they act like they don’t want to help me at all. Isn’t this their job. Anyway any advice would be helpful. And I also understand you have to go through a company of some sorts to do the 2290. Is that correct?

All states handle this differently. In Arkansas, the revenue offices don't touch IRP, we have to go to Little Rock in person to get that set up initially.
