Good point about taking a DOT physical first. My hearing is not as good as it used to be. I have trouble with conversations.

I have a friend that is an assistant manager at a steel mill in Michigan.
He said "get your license and I'll give you a job"
Not sure of the pay but it is a flat bed steel hauler.

So straight out of driving school, driving a company truck 50 to 60k??
What is better, Flat bed, van, steel hauling, auto parts?
The job you can stomach the longest. It's more about the bs coming out of the office than anything.

You want to make a good living, you learn to hustle. Hustle makes you more money than anything.

Hustle isn't about driving 16 hour days or 80 mph either.

Amen to that. We have a 12hr/60mph hustle here that can be lucrative.

It's mostly about being consistent and predictable so they can keep you planned out.

I am definitely a hustler. Been working more than one job most of my life. Steel Mill, auto factory, home maintenance, tow truck, handyman.
Haha, I'll try anything once, twice if I like it.

The truth is that you can make money in any segment of the industry.

The thread title says you have trouble hearing. Better go get your DOT physical.

Driving schools won't let you enroll in a CdL course without a DOT physical. If you find one that does, betcha it's a mill, and you'll play hell getting your tuition refunded if you can't pass the physical.
I think the point @Sinister was trying to make is that at no time did anyone imply that you shouldn’t have or didn’t need a DOT physical prior to going to the DMV or CDL school.

Maybe. If you give a school money without knowing you can pass the physical, WC Fields comment about fools and money applies.

If you are having hearing problems can you hear a forced whisper at 6' behind you? That has been a problem for me. I hear just fine but have trouble with that damn whisper part.

That's the point about getting the physical out of the way. Like the rest of us folks that have a few miles on us, there's lots of conditions that can cause problems getting a med card. Best find out about that now. Any reputable school won't take the OOs money without this in any case.

You can't get in a school without having your physical.
No kidding

That's what I said.

He should get a Dot physical before even investing his time to study to take the written test for his permit.

It will save him money to take the initiative and get his permit on his own time and dime than sit in a classroom and listen to someone read him a manual.
