Fuel tank vacuum problem

The tanks are supposed to be vented, there is not supposed to be any vacuum on them at all. Are you using the stock filler caps? Have you made any modifications to the tanks at all recently that could have caused the problem?
Some manufacturers use a vented cap, others have a vent hose attached to a valve somewhere on the top of the tank. Both (breathable cap and the valve) are designed to prevent spillage during a roll-over accident. If you have a vent hose check to see that it is not pinched off (someone have the fuel tank off and got it caught in the tank support during reassembly?), also check that the hose is not plugged with mud or ice. If that is OK then there is a problem with the vent valve or cap. Replace it.

I became a mechanic because when I was a boy I cut myself on a greasy truck frame, and some of the grease got into my blood. That cinched it for me.
It was obvious I was destined to be a mechanic from a very early age. As a toddler, when my toys would break, I would get into my daddy's tool box and take the toys apart, to see if I could fix them. Then when I was big enough I would sit on the fender of the family car and watch as the repairs were being performed.
I still have all of my tools, and do side work in my shop at home.
When I am home, that is.
