Yes I know boots, but regular church members are expected to give 20%. I have been told this by the church elders at the various "brands" I have attended over the years. (Baptist, Unitarian, Assembly of God)

That is God telling those folks that He is going to make the Jews give them a ransom and for doing that they have to give God 10%, I don't know pretty flimsy stuff, It does not say anything about christians giving the church a set percentage of what their paycheck is.

Sometimes I think churches including THE CHURCH put themselves above the teachings of Christ. Jesus has a parable about the rich men giving and the poor lady giving a single coin, the lesson was about how much more valuable that poor woman's gift was compared to the rich men's gift because of how little she had. And I think that is the bible's intention. Not a set amount but what a person can give. These preachers who claim to do God's work, say's God demands 10% from the millionaire and the very poor alike, then after church the preacher rides in a 'church' limo to his mansion on a hill are sinning just as bad as the guy who goes to the nudey bar and spends his pay on strippers while his wife and kids are home starving.

Interesting, especially in light of the fact that almost no one even reads the Old Testament anymore. They are all hung up on the New Testament, specifically the Book of Revelations.

And there is a never ending list of Bible Thumpers on TV, some with their own networks even, who are constantly preaching that the viewers need to send them lots of money for salvation. Just look at how they are dressed, and all the glitzy stuff on the set in the background.
