engine overhaul

$10,800? Wow. You can get a reman for $7,000 to $8,000. I suppose the labor to swing it will run a couple thou, but wow, that sounds high. Labor hours for and engine swing should only be something like 20 hours or so. What is shop labor these days?

That is about right for an inframe done by a dealer, if you know a decent mechanic with the right tools, you can do it for around 5G's, depending on how many times you screw up, I have the parts to a project that I have been working on for a long time scattered around the haybarn floor, I would actually have saved money if I had a clue on what I was doing

Racer, getting a finished engine is not cheap by the time you factor in shipping and installation which usually costs more then the engine itself

Had some work done at MHC Kenworth a few months back and their rate was $90 an hour. I also had some work done at a small independent shop and they only charged $65 an hour.

When I was with Schneider they figured their shop labor rate based on the average of all the area dealer shops. In Dallas the rate was $86 an hour.
