EC's Going For It

Just so that we're both looking at the same numbers.

2018 Ram 3500 6.7 Diesel with drw and 4.11 gears
Ram has a cool feature where you punch in your VIN and it spits out your specific payload and tow rating. It doesn't show your truck in the pic though. Just a generic one (probably the latest MY to try to sell you a new one).

And here's my GVWR on the door sticker. Says 14k if you can't make it out. I cropped the crap out of it so it might be a little blurry.

When I first saw a dually with a 40K GCVWR I was a little shocked. I wonder how high they have it now with the F450 and F550 now? I know a guy that is using a F550 for his start up tree company. He pulls a 40 foot trailer full of logs with it.
It's up there. Tow ratings at or near 38k in the single cabs.

Who wants to explain this to him. Because it's me, it won't make any difference.
In this instance you're simply wrong. It's literally right there in a screenshot. It's been proven in testing. They go even higher.

Depending on your particular truck, it can be lower. You can't just spit out the top line of the Monroney and say it's the same.

I honestly am not positive what your capacity will be.

What I do see is a rear axle limit of 9750 and a front axle limit of 6000.

What’s are these weights at with just the trailer sitting on the back?

Obviously it's going to depend on the trailer.

15% tongue weight of a 30k trailer is 4500lbs. I'm not sure how it would feel with that or if heavier is better. I do know that 15% is the upper side for a BP though.

I was thinking you already had one.
I have two bumper pulls but not a gooseneck. Both are under 10k so they're not even worth worrying about.

I'm getting a 30k trailer regardless, because it's ultimately going to be down to how it's loaded.

Unless of course I find a sub-30 that's light enough to take the same payload, because it'd be easier on fuel when empty.

That's 2019 and it has 70 more lb-ft of torque than 2018 so some of the weights are a little higher and it doesn't account for installed options on a truck by truck basis, BUT if you look at the second to last chart, very bottom, that's basically my truck.

Says right there, 34,130lb trailer. Why mndriver don't believe mine is rated at 30,320lbs with 70 less torque, I'll never know.

Your truck a diesel? What rear gears?

I’m not planning on doing hotshot like this, but you doing it is a learning process for me.

I've got the high output 6.7 Cummins diesel and the 6 speed AISIN with 4.10 rears. 385 horsepower, 930ft-lb torque. It's not the lower spec 6.7 Cummins with "lighter" duty transmission (I forget the number but it's not an AISIN). It's still a beast but it doesn't give you the big capacities. Just like the 6 speed manual that was recently discontinued doesn't give you the top capacities.

I didn't bother to learn the lower capacity specs and names since it wasn't of interest to me beyond making sure I didn't buy them.

I wasn’t doubting you. Like I said, I’m trying to learn while you are in this process. I’ve never pursued this niche yet.

From this, looks like you got it.

Not sure how weight will distribute on the trailer, but looks like axle weight on the truck will be the biggest thing to watch.

Sorry I did edit that. I didn't read the name and thought mndriver posted it in an attempt to prove me wrong.

Yeah I pretty much need to get some scale weights and choose my trailer carefully based on its unladen weight and axle position to get the most bang for my buck.

That screenshot I posted is from RAM and like I said you punch in the VIN and it tells you EXACTLY what your truck is capable of accounting for every aspect of its configuration.
