Do you delete your social media presence?

I am currently purging most, possibly all of my social media presence. Upon starting this process, it quickly became overwhelming at just how much stuff is recorded about you online.

so far, I have done most of Facebook. I almost simply deleted my account and started over, but I have a Facebook group and Facebook pages that I would have ultimately lost in that process. So, I manually deleted things.

What I learned? Facebook tracks everything! When you are doom scrolling, it keeps a history of every video you watch. It keeps a history of basically every click or tap you make with your account.

I realize this isn't new information, but actually sitting down and looking at it became a little creepy.

Deleting everything on X now, and chose to use a program for that. I had to research that closely before choosing to use it.

I'm considering changing the way I interact on social media in a big way.

I quit the Facebook a few years back after they recommended a friend and that was my boss. I could see his photos so I assumed he could see mine and after a psycho ex contacted someone on my friends list to stalk me after 20 years.

It was easy for me because I could just simply delete my account. I haven't looked back and nor do I miss it at all!

I had no idea when I started the deletion process, but when I went into my account and checked my list of groups and pages, I found another profile had been created under my account named "Joe". No idea how that got there.

I have crazy passwords, different for everything I log into. Somehow, someone successfully logged into my Facebook account a week ago from Venezuela. Facebook blocked it and notified me, but it amazes me how people can get into accounts like that. Nothing online is safe.

I never used Facebook and likely never will. I think my wife has finally gotten the message that I really don’t need to hear all the bs that is on hers. My daughter keeps me updated on my IPad with pictures of my Grandson and we FaceTime at least every other day and other than that I don’t really need to know anything else.

Since deleting virtually everything on Facebook, I find myself occasionally typing out responses to a discussion there, then exiting out of it rather than posting it, LOL.
