NEWINGTON, Conn. — Connecticut State police and more than 50 local police departments have begun a crackdown on people using their cell phones while driving.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation says the "U DRIVE. U TEXT. U PAY" initiative focuses on texting, but police also will be looking for drivers talking on their phones.

The state is using a $2.3 million grant from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to pay for the enforcement effort, which will run through the month of April.

Violators face fines of $150 for a first offense, $300 for a second violation, and $500 for any additional charges.

There was an article about some state, don't remember which one but they have a semi that was confiscated during a drug bust that they use to see down into cars of people texting then they radio ahead.

Cops don't need more money or a ride in a big truck.

Texters are pretty easy to spot, Just the same as a drunk driver, Weaving. Inconsistent rates of speed an my biggest complaint, Not looking far enough ahead to adjust to changing traffic flow.

So tired of having my indicator on well in advance and the car driver just notices it at the last minute.

If you think this is not you and you are a superhuman that can text and drive safely, You are WRONG!

In MN they've been rumored to use binoculars from atop an overpass looking down into passing semis below then to see drivers using their phones.
