Comments on EPA’s stricter truck emission standards proposal due May 16

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is proposing new truck emission standards and needs feedback from truckers before moving forward.

In a proposed rule filed in March, EPA wants to tighten nitrogen oxide emission standards for trucks starting with model year 2027 vehicles. Comments on the proposal are due Monday, May 16.

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association is encouraging professional drivers to provide feedback, including information about reliability, serviceability and warranties. Make sure EPA knows the problems you have encountered with emissions systems and the impact they have had on your business.

Can they at least perfect this series of emissions crap before trying mandate more emissions crap.

It is too bad that they won't admit that the first and second round of emissions crap was completely useless in regards to pollution and admit that, the original diesel engine was not all that bad in regards to pollution!

I can sure tell the difference when I'm following a truck that is pre-emissions. The smell will choke you and my eyes start watering and burning. It's really bad when you get to follow or get passed by one of the old pickups with diesels pulling a heavy trailer and you can see the constant stream of exhaust coming out of it.

Computerized injection in a way is a good thing. It meters what the engine demands, it doesn't just dump fuel into the cylinders in a throttle specific amount.

Yeah the computerized injection timing reduces emissions and improves fuel economy. Imagine how awesome these trucks would be without the exhaust side of things screwing everything up.

I like how clean my Mack operates but I suspect it would gain a couple miles per gallon if it could exhale more freely.

Even before my old pickup was running properly, I got 17mpg out of an all highway trip with it. Compare that with today's diesel pickups it's pretty good. I didn't even have cruise control to maintain my throttle, and it's 3.55 rear gears with a manual 4 speed direct transmission.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it does now on a clean steady fuel supply. I may NEVER buy a new truck.
