The average loss-value and number of reported cargo thefts in the United States increased significantly from July to September, according to the latest industry reports.

A total of 165 cargo thefts were reported during the quarter, with an average loss value of $155,709, according to the latest quarterly report published by SensiGuard. Those figures represent a 13% increase in volume and a 31% increase in value compared to the previous quarter. The numbers also represent a 3% increase in volume but an 8% decrease in loss values compared to the same quarter last year.

Well count yourself lucky! Canadian cargo thefts surpass the U.S.
Peel region accounts for most of the theft and for the uninitiated, Peel region is Brampton! (and Mississauga and Caledon) but Brampton!

Walmart had a trailer stolen from the Addison, IL store recently. Along with some other retail trailer thefts in the area. Now 86 stores in the Chicago area have kingpin locks that make a drop and hook a pain in the ass.

Other stuff too that’s “Walmart confidential” so I’ll save it.

I thought people only turned to being criminals and strippers whe the economy was not good?

Some people will be crooks no matter how good the economy is. I doubt the kingpin locks would really stop anyone who really wants to steal the trailer. As much as I hate Walmart I hate thieves more so I hope they catch them.

There's a difference between the stock market being good, and the economy being good... unless yer a bazillionaire.
This is so true and I wish more people understood that. Also the unemployment rate doesn't mean anything. The employment rate would tell more. Median income of the lower 90% would be a good indicator. My dad used to say a recession is when your neighbor is out of work. A depression is when you're out of work.

Didn’t they say last year the median household income rose by about $4000?

Maybe but, how much did their debt level rise?
I am convinced the next recession will be from debt levels, Kinda the same as the last one from bad mortgages but this will be credit debt. low interest rates and over extension.
This is just my opinion.

Yeah I gotta get mine down, TBH. It's harder to make what I used to make with the changes. That's why I don't want to take on a trailer payment.

I got especially squeezed when I was in truck limbo. Less time available to be productive jumping from truck to truck, spending half an hour of each shift while they found me an available one, dropping my morale, shortening my shifts. It sucks big time when that happens.

I have zero debt as it stands right now. I will need another vehicle eventually but, I am going to drive this one until the wheels fall off. I can't stomach taking out a loan.

Smart man. I wish that Ford Focus hadn't had a garbage transmission. I wouldn't have traded it for the truck that got me to buy the trailers that got me to think I needed a car too that got me realizing I truly hate cars that got me to trade for the Jeep that got me to trade the pickup for the dually.

😏

But really even with what I have, I used to only spend half of my NET because we used to be super productive. They made changes to supposedly eliminate service failures aka missed loads but also feeds us one at a time, causing us to stop to write them down, unable to plan our fuel stops, and doing less as a result. They also have to outsource more than ever. Constantly seeing third parties in and out with our trailers when we COULD cover it if they'd just give us our full day in advance the way they used to.

You figure if you screw your drivers out of one load each day and you have 100 drivers, you're outsourcing 100 loads you didn't have to outsource. Every day.

Thats a good point. In my case our healthcare costs went up, which made the lower tax rates marginal at best, and for many people null and void.

Your debt is largely in your control and a matter of discipline. I know because I’ve screwed it up a few times.

@Electric Chicken you have your own thread about your woes. Stop

They did. Fuel, food, healthcare, inflation all combined to nullify any middle class gains.

Meanwhile, the 1 percenters consume an even larger share of the GDP...

If it feels like you're just treading water or are falling behind, the facts show you're probably right.

Again, personal finance is just that. If wages have increased and taxes lowered the overall net effect should be a positive one. My health care costs have risen, but I’ve also got more in savings and more take home pay than ever.

Health care costs are not within a persons control aside from trying to stay healthy. That’s just corruption and exploitation.

Oil prices have remained stable for a few years now.

Acting like the 1% is next to you in the grocery store taking things just before you get there is a total falsehood.

The average overall effect in the economy has been to mostly eliminate middle-class gains. Since 2018 is the latest year with complete data...

2018 economic growth is 2.8%

US Consumer Price Index rises 1.9% in 2018

So that leaves an average gain of +0.9%. So perhaps you're up, but a sub one percent gain is basically peanuts. Our economy is finite, so pretending that the wealthy have no effect on the rest of us is bogus.

Top 1% owns more than 80% of the rest of us

When the wealthiest among us owns so much more of the economy, there is just less to be shared by the rest of us. That is a major force in the stagnation of the middle-class over the last 40 years.

When have you not been able to buy a gallon of milk because Bill Gates hoarded it all, and why do you think anyone should have to “share” anything with you?
