can you smoke pot at all?

Uhm OK. His cdl must meet certain criteria, and if NH ignores them they will be decertified. That means no reciprocity so I doubt they bent the rules for your buddy. Or it happened prior to that rule publishing.

Either way my opinion stands he should not have any license. I have no sympathy for dopers or drunks that get on the road.

Drunk driving is not an accident or a mistake. It is a choice to place yourself and others in danger.

A Choice. That choice has consequences that make people use molly coddling terms after they get caught like accident and mistake. Somehow society has lost sight of the fact that actions have consequences and people should be held accountable for the choices they make.

Straight up.... back when I was 21 I was a flippin drunk. To the point where I lost days and even the occasional week to the booze. Woke up places I didn't even remember going to or often even where I was. Didn't much care either.

Then one night I plowed into the back of a big LTD Ford containing a young family. Destroyed their car. Destroyed the nicest ride I'd ever had (66 Barracuda). But what truly scared me was that there was a young kid in the back seat of the LTD. The impact threw him into the front seat. THANK GOD he didn't get hurt.

DUI wasn't even a felony back then. But I spent the night in a cell with that young family running through my mind constantly.

I got me a room in a sleazy motel and spent the next week kicking the booze cold turkey. Went through several sides of hell. Never touched the stuff since.

Incidentally, even though it was a "misdemeanor" at the time, the DUI charge is still on record with the RCMP and in the files they share with the FBI and HS. It showed up every time I crossed the US/CAN border. It showed up with Immigration when I moved down here. Do not kid yourself that it will "disappear" after a couple of years.

I have zero sympathy/ tolerance for anyone who gets behind the wheel of an 18 wheeler with booze/drugs in their system. You are supposed to be a "professional" and you know better. This shite we do is dangerous enough when you're cold sober. Driving DUI you stack the odds beyond reason that you'll wind up killing several innocent people. Maybe Dad on his way to the job that his family depends on. Maybe Mom and the kids. Think about the look on the face of whoever is burying the biggest part of their life.

You really want to try and live the rest of your life with that on your soul?????

This always pisses off the "recovering alcoholics" who can't drink when I say this, but it's true.

When I was in my early 20's I used to get drunk all the time & do all sorts of crazy stuff.

Then one day I simply quit.

Not intentionally either. There was no incident, no "wake up call", nothing like that.

It just simply dawned on me one day that it had been several months since I had any alcohol.

:dunno:

But today although I don't drink all the time any more, I can still get completely shitfaced drunk whenever I want, or even get drunk 3 days in a row & then just forget that beer even exists.

I think I'm immune to alcohol addiction or something.

Only problem is that I still do stupid shit when I'm drunk.

For example, a few months ago I decided I needed to get more beer before the 2am cutoff. Didn't want to drive so I took my ATV & went through the fields until I got to the railroad tracks then followed them into town & walked the last 3 blocks to the gas station.

Amazingly, when I got home, after all that off-roading in the dark at "drunken idiot" speeds, the beer wasn't all shook up & foamy.

Good job!

Glad to hear that Duck. Don't piss me off atall. :D

I used to polish off a full 40 ouncer of "Black Death" Rum all by myself every day of the week and was on full "self-destruct" at the time.

But it still annoys me when I hear a "professional" driver doing the "Ain't nobody's business but mine" routine when ever this subject comes up.

It is nobody's business what a driver does in his off time as long as it doesn't affect him later when he gets behind the wheel.

Being hung over isn't good.

I personally am 53 years old and have never touched a drop. Why? Am I better than anyone? Hell no!

When I was in Junior High, I already saw what it was doing to my friends. They would talk on Wed, Thurs and Fri about the weekend's "BIG" party ... and then on Mon, Tues, Wed... you would listen to all the supposedly "funny" and stupid shiz people had done, you could already see who was going toward a "blackout' lifestyle.

I became a designated driver long before the term even became a term. I ended up marrying into an alcoholic family. The pain.... let's just say that as an OTR trucker, there was a lot, and not a damn thing I could do about it. Cell phones??? Ha! Unheard of. You would find a payphone to stay in touch with your kids. I learned how amazing I could become with my Pete in tight places... with only one thing on my mind: That Payphone.

My ex and I eventually had to split as my son had developed alcoholism. He was drinking Vodka after everyone went to bed. Nobody had a clue until after about two years in. He's been sober now for quite a few years, he was very young at the time.

I just lost my old boss to alcoholism. He used to be one of those guys that could drink all the way from L.A to Stockton and back. The beer was sitting right there on the doghouse. Don't believe me? Hell, Budweiser in Van Nuys used to GIVE a six pack to drivers pulling out of there. Some of you older dudes know I aint lyin.... they would drive through the scales drunk.

Whats my point? If I had started to drink when everyone else did, I wouldnt be here today. I would have had to be the "best"... alcoholic. Hard to explain.

I don't have much sympathy for drunk drivers, especially after spending years in the Safety dept. for a large trucking company. I don't consider myself "better" than anyone.. just "protected".....it was a blanket that the Good Lord put over me when I was young. Never gave me the desire.

And I see how past DUI's affect drivers trying to gain employment. The bigger the company, or "insurance company" the deeper the background check.

It's almost like they NEVER forgive you.

I'm all for second chances, but yeah, the bigrig is hard enough to negotiate sober let alone being under the influence of something, which is why I question type 1 Diabetics being allowed to drive Interstate now, and there is more of a gap in the renewal of their medical cards.

The U.S has an extreme shortage of drivers. I know that eventually anyone is going to be able to get behind the wheel.

It's kind of funny, the fact that alcohol is NOT a prescription drug and you can have as much of it as you want, when you want it.

I would say "end of rant" but I'm not ranting. I'm just recalling memories and how I see things today.

If the General Public knew what our trucks were truly capable of out there, I believe that congress would have mandated separate freeways for "trucks only" ... but then the braver four-wheelers would use them just to make better time......

We are going to see more propaganda throughout this Holiday Season than ever before... signs flashing above the freeway, you name it. So silly. People are gonna do what people want to do, regardless...

This is almost as good as the Mustang and Corvette forums..... makes me feel all gimmicky and sh#%

Maybe I can get to "Moderator Hate" status real quick....

Yup, Moosehead breweries (and others) used to do the same thing up home. Plus you could go up to their "guest bar" and toss back a "few" freebies while waiting. Also, the driver got to keep the "miscounts" and "damaged cases".

One day I watched a driver try 3 times to climb the steps of his cabover. Kept falling off he was so wasted. I purposely blocked him off so he couldn't leave and called management. I got all kinds of crap from the shipper and his company for "interfering" with the load.
