can you smoke pot at all?

Number 1. A drug test result only goes to your employer and nobody else. You don't go to prison.

Number 2. You can drink all you want. Just have to drive sober

Number 3. You don't go to prison if you get in an accident. The same rules apply to truck drivers as 4 wheelers.
Well we're going to disagree. DUI or DWAI as a contributing cause to a fatal accident on your part will get you prosecuted. Heck, any bad accident with negligence on your part will get you prosecuted.

A number of years back some jerk laid one over across a road in MN ( I believe)... you can look it up. A school bus full of HS kids coming back from a game late at night ploughed into the truck causing a number of fatalities. They couldn't get much out of vehicular manslaughter, but they found a pattern of logbook falsifications... got him on multiple counts which can be brought as a felony charge. Sentenced consecutively for I think 10 years.

Grocery store delivery driver at the end of a day came over a hill asleep on the OK turnpike near Miami OK. Slammed into the back of a line of cars stopped for an accident. Vehicular manslaughter, and I believe he served 18 months. You can look that one up too.

I wonder what the dopers will do to dilute there samples when they are upside down in their seat belt waiting for rescue to cut them out:dunno:

That was in Wisconsin on I94. That company is gone...which is probably a good thing. I can't remember what it was called...but it wasn't a great outfit.

Anyway there's more to the story. The driver of the bus had been up over 20 hours, and was an elderly guy who wasn't wearing his glasses.

The semi flipped, and the bus crashed into it.

It was found that that company had a history of falsification...and that driver wasn't a saint in that regard either.

It was late at night but the driver wasn't illegal in in HOS on that particular trip.

Personally I think the state of Wisconsin railroaded that guy and used it as an excuse to shut the whole company down.

Well, it seems you have changed the circumstances to prove your story. At first it was just an accident and you go to jail. Now it's manslaughter. Still, same rules apply to a car as opposed to a truck. An no, I'm not going to look it up. Why don't you and post the link to the story?

No need to post a link it is common knowledge that if in an accident investigation your found to be drunk or high your going to prison.

Really? Well you go with that theory. And there are different rules. The threshold for being under the influence is half of a car.

I know. My point is. You don't go to jail after a non fatal accident. That's what was said above and that's why I call BS

You have to start realizing that if you already have this "crutch" and it is taken from you because you choose trucking over weed, you're just gonna find another crutch.

You will have a lot of time on your hands, not always pleasant, but time to think, time you are away, time you are unhappy... time you will want to get away from it all.

If it ain't weed, it will be something. Not a good way to get started in this industry. Doesn't matter what you get away with... until.....

and I wouldn't even be that worried about the random. If you hadn't killed that crutch or found a way around the testing procedure out of sheer motivation.. . you still have to think about that accident.

High or not high, they will dig through you like they are doing an autopsy.

Find a way to drive, if you REALLY love trucks and trucking, that you can work straight, otherwise, Id' say find something else to do.

A lot of guys drink at night when the truck is parked, That may work for a while, but after time they have to use even more self-control when drinking becomes "second-nature" to them.

I've seen way too many things out on the road, or experienced the repercussions of them through watching my friends make bad choices out on the road.

It can't last forever.

You reap what you sow. If you really love trucks, you will enjoy what you do with just some good coffee....and no cigarettes.

Not judging, just sharing what I've seen out here over the last 35 years.

So many damn health issues out here even with truckers who dont seem to have any crutches...

I took it in the context of being in a thread about drugs. If you under the influence your gonna do time in a commercial vehicle.

Now if you crumple a fender in Nashville during rush hour, probably not gonna face anything other than a ticket.

That statement above is incorrect in that it does not include the word "Fatality" ... if you are found to be drunk or high after being involved in a fatality accident, your company has 3 hours to get you to the clinic for testing.

If you are found to be at fault, and you are on "something" illegal to be on while driving, you will not be happy. Even if you are on a prescription medication that your doctor said "was not likely to be an issue'... someone just might change your condition to "impaired"

And you can call B.S. on this statement if you want...... doesn't matter to me, but it better matter to you.

Does not have to be a fatality. DOT recordable (read as going to take a Wizz quiz) can be if a tow truck is needed, or an ambulance, or reasonable suspicion by an LEO at a scene investigation.

Personally? I spent 7 years in "Safety and Compliance' with a company who has over 3000 employees. It is indeed "Serious" bidness fo sho.

Now, do I agree with everything that the D.O.T does? LMAO!!!

WAAAAAAY too much revenue is collected in the "name" of "saftey" and nothing more, and the above poster is also correct. It does NOT have to be a fatality, there is also the stipulation of "cost"

It varies from State to State. The last I dealt with, it was $5000 ... which is about the cost of a bumper and a fender on a Pete.

There is a lot to consider here.. and ironically... almost EVERYONE is on SOMETHING.....

So, where does that leave me?

Just calling it as I see it. Like I said, no judgement. Trucking OTR is a bitch. You get effing lonely. You can't be there when you are needed most.

Your best friend is that white line... well.. not "that" white line.... or maybe it is...

But I hope not.

I wonder what the dopers will do to dilute there samples when they are upside down in their seat belt waiting for rescue to cut them out:dunno:

I've actually seen this... and have it (and so many others) on video-tape. I represented the company at accident scenes. Of course these vids are locked away... but someday.....

The driver had his heater (not gun) set up still plugged in (as it always remains plugged in to keep the synthetic urine at the proper temp)

Im not here to give out that kind of info. Like I already said, if you are determined. where there is a will there is a way, but sooner or later it will bite you... HARD.

You may get away with it for years, but I believe in spirituality and "Karma".... if you are putting other's lives in danger.... sometimes you just need to be...let's say "eliminated" from the equation.

It all depends. Like I said: "What I've seen" would drop jaws on the 4-wheelers and congressmen.

Enuff?

No. Tell us more.

I've always said we need a megafleet safety guy as a member of this forum because they always have interesting stories to tell.

Lol....

You know I can't because of confidentiality or "Classified" info.... I wish I could post up and block the name on the doors, but you would still know the trucks.

I shouldn't even have put a teaser out there, and I do understand that you are being a tad "facetious"..no?

I just wish that some of these younger "truckers" or wannabe truckers could learn from the mistakes of their elders.

Its odd to me to hear somebody say that trucking is not serious business.

It's something that only a chosen few understand. REAL TRUCKDRIVERS.

and you are not going to become one in one year, two years or even ten years. It's like martial arts, a lifetime venture.

We meet these guys... they don't talk much, they exude respect and they deserve respect, but nobody really knows who they are.

Myself? I've been doing it for 35 years and I'll probably repeat myself over and over again, but I have to say in all honesty that there was a lot of fun, yes, but there was also a lot of pain and sorrow.

If I had it to do all over again, the choice I made really couldn't be helped.. why? Because I already LOVED trucks at 5 years old. It was my destiny. It was my dream, but damn.. sometimes the pain......

You wouldn't wish it on your best friend. Did I get off topic? Maybe.. maybe not.

I usually have nothing but distaste for Social Media, but in this case, it's another way to connect with other people that do what I do and live like I live.. that I never would have talked to. Its' nice to cry on someone's shoulder, because we do certain things that deserve to be talked about, but we cant... unless we talk to ourselves.

Our families don't wanna hear it. Most of the truckers here probably don't... but they understand.

All it takes is one tiny little mistake.... and how many of us are "Peter-Perfect?"

We all make mistakes every single day.. even if it's just as simple as passing our destination and having to turn around... calmly.

Ya hear me KIMMON???
